By now, we've all heard that The Revenant was probably Leonardo DiCaprio's most challenging role — during the filming, it's been rammed down our throats how he almost caught hypothermia, chomped on bucket-fulls of dirt, violently puked after eating bison liver, and lived through a terrifying tussle with a CGI bear. Indeed, all things considered, we really can't deny that he really took his acting to the next level with this one:
Yet, fellow Academy Award Best Actor category nominee Matt Damon seems to be sick of hearing about it and he's just gone out of his way to rain all over Leo's Oscars parade. Speaking to Vanity Fair, the actor who played the lead in Ridley Scott's The Martian essentially told DiCaprio that he doesn't need to overexert himself in such a 'harrowing' way to get the big gong. In fact, you can still win a bunch of awards without puking your guts out or freezing your toes off:
“Every night at 6 o’clock, the horn blew and Ridley and I went to dinner. And that’s how you make a movie, and we finished the film really early and we saved 2 million bucks. And Leo – we weren’t cold at all. I’m just sayin’. There’s another way to do it.”
For reference, The Revenant took over 12 months to shoot and cost a whopping $135 million, while The Martian only took 70 days and $72 million. Maybe Damon has a point...?
