After the 10 Cloverfield Lane trailer landed unexpectantly, Universal Pictures seem to have copied the same formula, and have released the first trailer for the new Purge film unannounced. Titled The Purge: Election Year, the trailer is set two years after The Purge: Anarchy and follows Charlene Roan, a Senator who wants to put a stop to the Annual Purge. She also seems to know Sergeant, the main character from Anarchy. Once again, the film is set just before The Purge commences and we see Sergeant and Charlene unwillingly become involved in the night's horrific event.
The Purge had potential, but was disappointing; it had a unique premise, but ended up becoming a typical home invasion film. I really liked the second film, The Purge: Anarchy, which took viewers on the American streets during the night of The Annual Purge. This was also what the first film was promised to be, and it created a bigger world from the eyes of the Middle class citizens. This time, Election Year is showing us the event that we've come to know, except from the eyes of the Upper class. It'll be interesting to see how the people who were usually safe in hiding will be portrayed, now that they'll be exposed to this unique night.
The Purge: Election Year is in cinemas 1st July 2016. The trailer can be seen below:
