It is not the first time that the long journey of Meredith Grey includes life treathing injuries, accidents or catastrophic events, that is just what Grey's Anatomy is about. Making us bite our nails and cry our eyes out while watching.
With the winter premiere of [Grey's Anatomy](tag:200746) this week, I’ve decided to take a look at the storyline of Meredith Grey and how this second half of season 12 will be a game changer for her.
If you are a spoiler addict and Grey’s junkie like me, then you already know that the premiere episode, directed by Denzel Washington, will focus on a Meredith being brutally attack whilst she tries to take care of a patient.
Official Grey’s Anatomy Synopsis and Sneak Peek
Meredith is brutally attacked by a patient, and Penny is the one who discovers her. The doctors of Grey Sloan Memorial rush to stabilize Meredith and remain by her side in the harrowing aftermath.
Apparently after an accident, a victim is brought back to the hospital where Meredith is left alone in the exam room taking care of one particular injured man. Soon, the roles invert and she becomes the victim of a violent attack.
In one of the sneak peeks we can see Meredith being choked, thrown to the ground and brutally injured in the head. She ends up with more than one broken bone, and the doctors rush to her side to help.
Take a look at this sneak peek where all join forces to save Mer's life.
What I Think Happens…
I think that one morning during their commute Meredith, Alex and Maggie run towards the hospital were Meredith has an altercation with Amelia and asks her former “sister” to leave the exam room to give her some privacy. Amelia exists the exam room without checking on the patient who is awake and after listening the doctor’s fight and is thrown into a fugue state. When the patient becomes violent Meredith is gravely injured.
The doctors do their best to save Meredith's life, except for Amelia (Derek's little sister), who feels guilty about her recent choices and instead decides to return to drugs instead of facing the reality of the situation. This will propel a somewhat repetitive but intense storyline for Amelia, Owen and Meredith.
Maggie will be the one taking care of Meredith’s children while Meredith is in the hospital for months without speaking because of the damage inflicted to her vocal cords when she was attacked. Hence the title of this episode “The Sound of Silence”.
Since this is a Meredith centric episode I don’t expect we’ll get to know a lot of the details about what happened with the other characters. Will Joe accept Alex's proposal? Are Jackson and April still a couple? Is Owen's enemy still in the hospital? Nobody knows!
I do think this will be great material for Ellen Pompeo; she deserves a lot of great material to work with since the passing of her TV husband because all the emotional drama of this show is on her shoulders now.
I have to confess that it still hurts to watch due to the lack of McDreamy; but this Grey’s Anatomy addiction is hard to shake. I can’t wait to see what other drama and tears are brought to my screen on the upcoming Thursdays. This second part of the season sure needs something juicy that makes us forget about all the characters we've lost over the course of twelve seasons.
