Pride Prejudice and Zombies Review

PPZ is an adaptation of the book of the same name. On a side note, the author who wrote PPZ also wrote Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, which has also been turned into a movie.

The story follows similar events that we see in Pride and Prejudice but with a constant presence of Zombies. The movie is about Elizabeth Bennet and her feelings towards Mr. Darcy. There are many references to social class differences like in the original Pride and Prejudice, but unlike the book where the social differences involve money, in PPZ it also involves training in how to kill the Zombies. Throughout most of the film we see a good blend between Pride and Prejudice and the Zombie Presence, until the end where the plot changes to focus mostly on the fight against the Zombies.

The movie stars Lily James as Elizabeth Bennet, Sam Riley as Mr. Darcy, Jack Huston as Mr. Wickham, Matt Smith as Mr. Collins, and Lena Headey as Lady Catherine de Bourgh. I thought Lily James did a good job as a strong female lead while still having the presence of a lady from that Era. Of course never having read PPZ or Pride and Prejudice, I can only make my judgement on the movie as a whole.

In the movie, the Zombies aren't your atypical Zombie that you see in the Walking Dead or whatever. These Zombies seem to contain certain amounts of intellect, which when I first saw this presented in the film it actually piqued my interest because normal zombies aren't like that. This intellect in the zombies added a certain amount of fear and danger to them, more than a normal zombie would. As a whole the movie was decent and with that I give it a 6.5 out of 10.
