Everyone starts somewhere and today's most popular actors and actresses are no exception. Many appeared in commercials or television before claiming a role on the big screen but I want focus on their film debuts - the very first movie they were cast in. They have all grown and it's fun to see how they've changed!
Tom Hardy / Black Hawk Down (2001)
Ridley Scott's 2001 war drama focuses on a rescue mission to save a fallen pilot of a Black Hawk helicopter that has crashed behind enemy lines. The film stars Josh Hartnett, Ewan McGregor and Hollywood's man of today, Tom Hardy. Since Black Hawk Down, Hardy has been busy rebooting Mad Max, selling moonshine in Lawless and breaking Batman's back in The Dark Knight Rises. Hardy recently co-starred alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in The Revenant, and was nominated for his first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor this year. He is soon to release a Splinter Cell movie and more Mad Max sequels, so be on the look out for this man!
Jennifer Lawrence / The Poker House (2008)
J-Law's first film focuses on three neglected and abused sisters born to a mother who turned to prostitution to support them but has been forced to use drugs and alcohol. Lawrence, the older sister, is forced to take charge and care for her younger sisters, Bee (Sophi Bairley) and Cammi (Chloe Grace Moretz). After a few other films, her popularity soared after being cast as Katniss Everdeen in 2012's The Hunger Games. Lawrence has been nominated for four Academy Awards, winning one for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role for Silver Linings Playbook. She may win her second this month for her performance in Joy.
Michael B. Jordan / Black and White (1999)
Michael B. Jordan rose to prominence in 2012's Chronicle but his first film credit came as teen #2 in 1999's Black and White, which starred big names like Ben Stiller, Scott Caan, and Robert Downey Jr. The film deals with a group of white high school students who become involved with Harlem's black hip-hop crowd. Since then he has starred in film after film, most recently the Rocky spin-off, Creed. Keep your eye open for this man, as he is sure to pop up in more to come!
Leonardo DiCaprio / Critters 3 (1991)
Oscar nominee Leonardo DiCaprio had his feature film debut in 1991's Critters 3 as Josh. The tiny aliens are looking for anything and anyone to eat in an apartment tower in L.A. and poor Leo is caught inside with the rest of the residents. Leo's film credit really exploded with James Cameron's Titanic. He starred as the fictional Jack Dawson and took the world by storm. Since then, he has been nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role four times, and famously never won. That may change this month as he was nominated for his performance in The Revenant alongside Tom Hardy. With a new film coming soon where he portrays the infamous serial killer Dr. H. H. Holmes he will be sure to dazzle us! With his acting ability, expect to see his name in the Academy Awards for years to come!
Michael Fassbender / 300 (2006)
Fassbender was all over television before making the jump to film. His first film credit came in Zach Snyder's 300. He played Stelios, a Spartan soldier who sadly gets beheaded during the battle. Since then, Fassbender has exploded everywhere, starring in dramas and action flicks. He has unforgettable performances in everything he touches now. He's been nominated for two Academy Awards, one for Steve Jobs and the other for 12 Years a Slave. With films like Inglorious Basterds and X-Men under his belt, and an Assassin's Creed movie on the way, it's safe to say we'll see him kicking butts in years to come. We hope he will strike gold soon and take home an Academy Award!
Norman Reedus / Mimic (1997)
Everyone's favorite crossbow wielding zombie slayer, Norman Reedus, made his first film appearance in the horror flick Mimic, about a doctor who creates an insect to kill cockroaches with a virus, which is directed by the legendary Guillermo del Toro. Most know Reedus for his portrayal of the unforgettable Murphy MacManus in The Boondock Saints, co-starring Sean Patrick Flannery and Willem Dafoe. He has since been in a Blade sequel, Pandorum, and of course The Walking Dead. His new film Triple 9 is showing much promise, as he will star as dirty cop who needs to perform a 999, police code for officer down, to pull of the heist of a lifetime. Co-starring Casey Affleck, Woody Harrelson, and Anthony Mackie, we are anxiously awaiting Triple 9. Reedus returns to the small screen in TWD February 14th.
Margot Robbie / Vigilante (2008)
Robbie made her film debut in the film Vigilante. It follows the story of Luke, who takes matter into his own hands after his fiance (Robbie) was raped and murdered. However her star shined brightest in Martin Scorcese's The Wolf of Wall Street starring Leonardo DiCaprio. She showed off a certain kind of sexy and crazy that complimented perfectly with her character and fed off Leonardo's performance. She has two films in post production currently, The Legend of Tarzan, where she stars as Jane Porter (not a bad last name), and the highly anticipated Suicide Squad, where she will once again get to show off her sexy and crazy attitude as DC's Princess of Crime, Harley Quinn.
With so many stars out there, it's hard to fit them all in one list. Who did you want to see on here? Be sure to go watch your favorite actor or actresses film debuts! It's where they started and made them who they are today!
