Bioware are famous for their narrative prowess. We know their stories succeed because of the deep characters within them and the exceptional dialogue that brings them to life. But even the masters can get it wrong. I'm sure we've all happened upon a character or two that has infuriated us or awakened a tremendous sense of disdain.
When it comes to Mass Effect: Andromeda, we sincerely hope that Bioware are on top form and are ready to create characters from all walks of life. Every story needs someone we can dislike, it's what draws us to more relatable figures. But if we were to see some characters return from the Mass Effect trilogy and arrive in Andromeda for Mass Effect 4, these 4 wouldn't be on our list.
Andromeda: 4 Mass Effect Characters That Should Stay Out Of This Galaxy
What are the odds of seeing old friends again in Mass Effect: Andromeda? Will the slate be wiped completely clean? Is there a chance that those aboard the Normandy at the conclusion of Mass Effect 3 landed in the Andromeda galaxy? Maybe. But what are your theories?
I think there's a general consensus about Jacob. Where was Bioware's indelible charm? Why did Jacob feel so underdeveloped as a character? This guy lacks all emotion, all intrigue, and was generally a very uninteresting character to converse with in Mass Effect. He stuck around for far too long and if I saw him in Mass Effect 4, I think I'd actually be disappointed. "Of all the people that could have made it, Jacob..."
It would naturally be a pretty awful idea to include Zaeed in Mass Effect 4 considering he was only introduced through DLC for Mass Effect 2. But this was one character that I completely lacked all emotion for. He was terribly one-dimensional, as he ran around grunting and trying to show off how much of a badass he thought he was. We need a lot less of this stuff in video games and Zaeed was the embodiment of boring gaming protagonist for me.
While I never took a liking to Ashley (I really disliked her by Mass Effect 3) she played an important role in the Mass Effect universe. She demonstrated an important aspect of human nature. She was, in a sense, pretty racist. She wasn't familiar with alien species and thus feared them. She was hurt by a war that devastated her family and was thus cold towards other species. While this character development was fascinating, by the end of Mass Effect 3 Bioware seemed to forget about her as she became a rather frustrating and uninteresting character.
Though it was great to see Joker have someone to relate to in Mass Effect 3 as a romance blossomed, I felt that EDI's take over of Eva's body was just ridiculous. The shape of her body was absurd, her over-sexualized nature was creepy and I really don't think it was necessary for her to get up and start walking around. I'd be embarrassed to see that body walk up to me again in Mass Effect 4.
But what about you guys? Which characters would you hate to see return in [Mass Effect: Andromeda](tag:2683449)?
