Though I adore the Persona series and numerous other Atlus products, there's something that really griped me when it came to 2011's Catherine. This bizarre puzzle platformer, which focused heavily on its muredrous and bizarre narrative, was one of the biggest personal surprises this decade. Its animations were beautiful, the characters were compelling and the gameplay was superbly innovative and challenging.

Naturally, I'm not alone. Cathrine has garnered a well-deserved cult following and a lot of people have asked for a sequel. Atlus have heard our request and have certainly looked into it, but is it one of the surprise unannounced games they have in store for 2016?

Persona 5 & Catherine 2 In 2016?

Persona 5
Persona 5
“In 2015, we were able to develop existing IP like Persona 4: Dancing All Night and Etrian Mystery Dungeon. In 2016, starting with Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir, we plan to release a large number of titles. In the summer, we’ll launch the long-awaited Persona 5. Of course, in addition to that we have several unannounced titles. I have no doubt this will be a year Atlus’ popular series all gather together.

This is a quote from Atlus' CEO Naoto Hiraoka. We're still unaware of the secret projects that the developer/publisher have in store for us, but if Persona 5 arrives in the Summer, could we actually see something like Catherine 2 arrive later this year?

A Secret Release Date?

What popular games is Hiraoko referencing? What other IPs could make an appearance in 2016? We know that Etrian Odyssey V is in development, but we've no idea what the platform is or when the title will receive its release date. Unusual. We also that Shin Megami Tensei IV: Final was just released in Japan, but we were aware of that game for a while.

What other franchises could he possibly be referencing?

Here are just a few of the other IPs that Atlus owns: Conception, Devil Survivor, Aquapazza, Gungir. Could these be some of the franchises he's referencing? Even though I'd enjoy seeing sequels from some of these, none of them would be anywhere near as a exciting as the release of Catherine 2 in 2016.

But what about you guys? Are you fans of Catherine? Do you feel there is another franchise he could be referencing that'll surprise us all? And are you excited for the release date of Persona 5 after all of this time? Let us know in the comments below!
