The team arrives in the year 1986 in Washington D.C. after Gideon finds a lead on Savage's location. Rip tells the team that they need to obtain a file on Savage that was redacted by the government which is located in the Pentagon. Ray and Snart pose as janitors with Sara and Kendra as a military officials and gain access to a secured file room. Rory distracts the soldiers while they carry out the plan. Jax disregards Steins orders and compromises the mission forcing the team to improvise. They do however retrieve the files. Kendra loses control and the team aborts and returns to the ship. They find out that Savage is working with the Soviet Union where they head to. On their way there Chronos tails them but Rip formulates a plan and is able to evade him. The Waverider however ends up crash landing. Stein finds out that the project that Savage is working on with the Soviets is a weapon called Operation Svarog. He is working with a former physics student named Valentine Vostok who Ray volunteers to meet. Rip gives Snart and Ray pills which enable them to speak and understand different languages. While Sara talks to Rip about Kendra he tasks her with helping Kendra gain control of her warrior spirit. Sara trains Kendra and provokes her so that she can channel her other side. They are both unable to control themselves and nearly kill each other. Ray is unable to get through to Valentina so Snart steps in. He is able to steal her security card for the lab she works at. Rip asks Rory to accompany him in confronting Chronos who survived the crash. Instead they find Rip's mentor Time Master Druce who tells him to disband the team, stop going after Vandal and all charges against him will be cleared. He give Rip time to think about it. Rory tells him that Druce really wants to kill Rip and the whole team. Rip tells Stein and Jax about the deal Druce made him. He returns to meet Druce where he reveals that he is working with Chronos. Jax and Rory show up and save Rip. Jax is wounded after he and Stein are separated by a device of Chronos. Druce and Chronos escape. Back on the Waverider, Jax and Stein have a falling out over Jax's carelessness as Firestorm. After a brief talk with Rip, Kendra realizes that She may be the one who needs to train Sara. Stein gets into Luskavic Labs using Valentina's security card and finds out that they are trying to create a Soviet Firestorm. Ray and Snart show up to help Stein shut down the thermal core. While Ray and Stein work together Snart goes to save Valentina. She reveals to Snart that she knows what Savage is doing and holds him hostage. Ray is forced to turn the thermal core back on but Stein is able to retrieve it. Rory shows up to help them but he, Stein and Ray are taken by the Soviets, and Snart is forced to leave with the thermal core. The rest of team make a plan to save them before Savage and Valentina use Stein to complete their Soviet Firestorm.
Boba Fett is back and gives the team a bit of a hard time. While the episode didn't have as much action as the last, there was definitely enough to satisfy us. Here are some notable scenes.
Valentina Vostok- A scientist who is working with Vandal to make a Soviet Firestorm. She has yet to become like her comic book counterpart who possessed a radioactive "soul-self", and was capable of flight and intangibility, and could generate minor explosions upon contact with positive energy. In the direction they are going, that could be happening fairly soon.
Zaman Druce- A Time Master who is Rip Hunter's mentor. He's a big poopy head and a liar. Something was definitely off the moment we meet him and we thought that he would display some sort of powers due to being a Time Master but no. Just your typical bad guy who has others do his dirty work for him.
Legends- So they definitely don't have the whole team work thing down pat just yet. They progressed a bit this episode and they were in the clear. However things went wrong and this time they ended up losing half the team in the process. They are going to have to learn to work together in order to fix this before Vandal takes the life of another member. Despite their differences though, they are all about not leaving anyone behind even though they hate each other.
Ray and Snart- Ray was able to get Snart to act the hero, but in the end that compromised their mission. We hate to say it, but Snart was right from the get go. The whole survivalist mentality is exactly what they need to be able to make it out alive and I think that's what Ray was missing. Aside from that though, these two are best friends, they just don't know it yet. There is definitely a respect between these two.
Stein and Jax- Some pretty harsh words were exchanged this episode, but Stein was absolutely right. There was much more on the line than just their lives. Jax just needs to learn how to listen to someone who knows more about the science of how things work. You can see how much Stein cares for the kid, just like he did Ronnie. He then sacrifices himself to retrieve the thermal core and is successful, although it leaves him very weak.
Rip and Rory- This team up is awesome. Rory usually roams around alone looking for something to do, so when he gets the chance to leave the ship and use his gun, that's all it takes. Even though he is a criminal, he warned Rip that Druce was trying to kill him and he was right. Rory is definitely the most colorful character on the team and steals the scene every time he walks in.
Snart and Rory- Criminals. Partners. Brothers. The bond is strong with them and Snart was pretty pissed that he had to leave his friend behind. Rory made an honorable sacrifice and hopefully we will see them reunited next episode.
Stein and Ray- After the boxing match between Stein and Jax, he told Ray the real reason as to why he was so harsh to Jax. That he couldn't go through with losing him just like he did Ronnie and having to tell Jax's mother that he wasn't going to come home. It's always nice to see the nerds of the group talking about their problems to one another.
Rip and Time Master Druce- More like Time Master Douche. You could tell from the moment her stepped into the scene that something was off. Rip was apparently his smartest and favorite pupil, but that didn't stop him from tasking Chronos to have Rip killed.
Rip and Snart- Twice this episode Rip was nearly killed by his allies. While Snart was a little more justified, they seemed to have come to an understanding. Rip told Snart there was not other way and would have done the same thing if he were in the situation. "That's a cold calculation Rip. Almost criminal."
Sara and Kendra- Having these two work out their issues by training each other was probably not the brightest idea Rip has had, but it looks like it is working. Sara with her bloodlust and Kendra with a feral winged demi goddess, it was only a matter of time before we saw some sort of battle between the two. Being the only two ladies on the ship, they have to be there for each other. The Canary and the Hawk. From Sara to Kendra."If it wasn't for big bird here, we wouldn't be in this mess."
Snart and Valentina- Snart you sly dog you. When Ray was given the cold shoulder, Valentina warmed up to Snart. After their little rendezvous Snart got a kiss, but he also took her wallet and key card. We kind of saw what was coming once they confronted each other again. They would have made a great couple though.
Top Gun Reference- He thought that he could get away with it, but Snart knew what he was saying.
Rocky VI Reference- We feel sorry for the soldier who Rory has is his side. You don't mess with this hot head.
What's to Come/Theories:
The team is on a mission to save Stein, Ray and Rory from Vandal, who is planning to use Stein in creating their very own Firestorm. From the previews for next week's episode 'Fail Safe', we see the team infiltrating the facility they are being held in, with Snart dressed as a "ruski' and Sara getting ready to snipe someone's head off. She is looking at Stein through the scope. It also looks as if Vandal and Valentina are successful as she is seen transforming into Firestorm. That is what Vandal's end game probably is. He will be creating a meta human army of his own to combat our Legends. So each of our heroes could have their very own arch enemy that Vandal will create or recruit. That would be genius. Whatever happens we know it's going to be epic! The episode following next week's is the one we are going to see Green Arrow in the future. So much excite.
Week 4 of Legends of Tomorrow toned it down a little with all the destruction and lasers from the last episode, but the story was awesome. There were a good amount of laughs, action sequences, and solid character interactions, to have us wanting next week to come faster! 'White Knights' was another one for the books. This episode gets a 9.2 Waveriders out of 10. What did you think about last night's episode? Leave it in the comments below, we'd love to read them!
