Hideo Kojima is one of the world's most respected game developers and he recently joined Sony to make exclusive games for Playstation 4 since quitting Konami. Thankfully that whole fiasco is over, because the legendary Kojima was clearly not happy towards the end with Konami.

The legend.
The legend.

Hideo Kojima is known for having good movie taste, and even worked with fantastic director Guillermo del Toro. His latest list of top 10 movies of 2015 has been released and you might notice a few surprises.

Kojima started up a YouTube show called HideoTube, and in this first episode, he lists his favorite films released in Japan last year. I must admit I really like the list! Check it out below!

10. 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens'

The Force Awakens (2015)

In number 10 was the biggest selling movie of last year, the long awaited Star Wars: The Force Awakens. A good choice, and it's nice to see he wasn't too pretentious to put a huge blockbuster on the list.

9. 'Fires on the Plain'

A one for the watch list
A one for the watch list

This movie follows a "Japanese soldier who endures illness, starvation and brutality in the Philippines at the tail end of WW2." I'm not sure of this movie, but Kojima speaks highly of it! I must watch it, because it must be good if Kojima likes it.

8. 'Straight Outta Compton'

N.W.A rise to fame

Hideo said, “Even though I don’t listen to much rap, I enjoyed this. It made me want to check out more rap," and I loved that he felt this way, how you could enjoy and respect a film even not being fully interested in the topic.

7. The Intern

Most under-rated movie of 2015?
Most under-rated movie of 2015?

This film was one I thoroughly enjoyed, but it's not only me who enjoyed it. Not only does Hideo Kojima love the movie but Quentin Tarantino believes Robert DeNiro should have been nominated for an Oscar!

6. Shaun the Sheep the Movie

Surprising entry?
Surprising entry?

I've actually never seen this movie, so I can't say whether I agree with Kojima on this one, but I must admit it is a very surprising decision, in my opinion!

5. Nightcrawler

Jake Gyllenhaal at his best
Jake Gyllenhaal at his best

I absolutely loved Nightcrawler and I'm delighted Kojima liked it too, he must have enjoyed the thriller aspect of the film saying, "It was quite a scary film.” I would love to sit down and watch recommended movies with Kojima for the day, the dude's got taste!

4. Locke (Note: this was released in Japan last year)

Locke is a film I saw awhile back and I really enjoyed it! Tom Hardy is on his own for the whole movie and we go by his chatting and facial expressions alone. Expertly told and wonderfully acted, Kojima respected the performance Hardy put in.

3. Kingsman: The Secret Service

"Manners maketh man"
"Manners maketh man"

This was by far one of my favorite movies last year, with the fantastic action, great humor, and neat gadgets, I would have been surprised if this wasn't on Kojima's list! He said, "The Kingsman is terrific.”

2. Whiplash (Note: this was released in Japan last year)

"That's not my tempo"
"That's not my tempo"

This movie was in my top 3 of 2014, I still listen to the soundtrack every day. Kojima describes the movie as like watching an action movie: "The cutting and the tempo are like for an action flick.” and I couldn't agree more, every aspect of this film was spectacular.

1. Mad Max: Fury Road

Mad Max.
Mad Max.

“If I started talking about this film, I could go on for 24 hours. George Miller is a god" is how Kojima described this film, and there was a part of me that knew he would pick this film as his number one. A movie with amazing, high-octane scenes with a simple plot expertly told. Kojima said he wants to be like George Miller, which he said "is impossible," commending the director for being "in his 70s, making something like this. Making what you want to make, and then having it turn out to be a hit.” Well said Kojima.
