There's been no official mention of Dead Space 4 in years. Visceral Games have stated that this IP is engrained within their mentality and they'd relish the opportunity to return to it at some point in the future. Though Dead Space did very well for EA, the final installment in the franchise underperformed, which probably accounts for the series' hiatus.
Dead Space 3 was released in February of 2013 and it was joined by the release of Crysis 3. Both of these games failed to meet EA's expectations, and I suppose that's why we haven't heard from either of them in a while. But there's so much worth in an IP like Dead Space. There's nothing else like it, and we feel we need a release date for Dead Space 4!
Dead Space 4 - Is A Release Date On The Horizon?
VideoGamer reported information from a confidential source concerning the cancellation of Dead Space 4 following "lower than anticipated" sales of Dead Space 3 in 2013. We then later heard that Visceral Games were working on a new game and had not been asked to make another Dead Space title (that game turned out to be Battlefield: Hardline).
But here we are in 2016 and it's beyond apparent that gamers are calling for the release of another Dead Space game. We need more survival horror titles in out lives. A comments section on one of our previous articles on Dead Space 4 is flooded with adoring fans:
- "I really hope they make Dead Space 4, I'm a HUGE fan! And I'm not just talking about my ridiculous height."
- "Dead Space 4 would be my reason to get an Xbox one. Bring it on!! I would definitely pre-order the game as well!"
- "Dead space 4 should happen! EA learned there mistake from Dead Space 3. They need to continue with the Isaac storyline though."
Couldn't agree more. Though Dead Space 3 may not have performed as well as EA would have liked, the appeal is there. Seeing as the series has taken a break, is now not the perfect time to take everything you learned from previous installments and create a great shooter/horror for an eager audience? Hype has naturally been built!
The story of Isaac is still left open and fans are dying to plunge into the depths of space once more. Imagine what sort of weapons we could have and how beautiful the game could appear on XBOX One and PS4! Also limb dismemberment could be vastly improved and we all know that's a priority.
But what about you guys? Have you been longing for the return of Dead Space? Were you a fan of all three games? And do you think we need more survival horror titles on consoles? Let us know what you think in the comments below and hopefully Visceral Games will be commissioned to return to this beloved franchise!
