Zoom. It's a name that's struck fear into the heart of The Flash and his friends since the start of season 2. And so far, we're no closer to knowing who he/she/it is. Could it be Iris? Or Cisco? Or Captain Nazi? Here I plan on breaking it down and trying to clear some of the murky waters. Without further ado, let's take a look at some of the main contenders and why they could, or couldn't be The Flash's nemesis.

Hunter Zolomon

ZOlOMon... Geddit?
ZOlOMon... Geddit?

In the comics, Hunter Zolomon is Zoom. The clue is literally written in his name. In the Arrowverse, however, I don't think that that is the case. Zolomon was introduced in such a throwaway manner that it seemed like it is nothing more than a nod to the fans. Of course, we all know that Berlanti & Co. are great at misdirection, so could the almost non-intro of Zolomon have been a great way to throw people off the scene? Possibly, but then we come back to my original point - in the comics, Zolomon is Zoom. If you're a fan of the comics, the big secret surrounding the entire season is given away, just like that, in the blink of an eye. If you're not a fan of the comics, a simple Google search will result in the big secret surrounding the entire... Well, you get the picture.

Earth-2 Barry Allen

Earth-2 Barry is kinda... Normal.
Earth-2 Barry is kinda... Normal.

There is a popular theory going around that Earth-2 Barry could be Zoom. If we put last week's episode down as part of his plan, and consider that he was only pretending to be a bumbling idiot, this theory could be true. But why? There is an argument to be made that it could be a nice bit of symmetry - Good Barry V Evil Barry: Dawn of Allen? There is another train of thought which says it would be a lazy, easy way out for the writers who perhaps wrote themselves into a corner and needed a last minute plan. We all know the writers of the Arrowverse are better than that, so logic dictates that Earth-2 Barry isn't Zoom. For the record, I agree with logic - he isn't Zoom.

Earth-2 Joe West

What a guy.
What a guy.

This was a somewhat popular theory, up until last week's episode of The Flash: 'Welcome to Earth-2.' We all assumed there was a Joe West on Earth-2, but none of us knew what he would be like. Well, we found out last week. He's... Different than I expected. Earth-2 Joe is one hell of a cabaret singer, and a regular at Jitterbugs, the Earth-2 version of Central City's finest coffee house.

After seeing that episode, Earth-2 Joe being Zoom wouldn't only be a shock, it would be completely out of left field, and not in the 'Oh my God, that was awesome' kind of way, more in the 'Really? That's the best you guys could do?' kind of way. Much like Earth-2 Barry, there is no way on (either) Earth that Joe is Zoom. And if he is, I'll eat Jay Garrick's hat.

Wally West

Wally West aka The Flash
Wally West aka The Flash

Wally West will not become Kid Flash or The Flash this season. He may never become Kid Flash or The Flash in any season, his name may just be there as a nod to fans. Or, he may be there to totally throw everyone off the scent. Per the comic books, Zoom is the arch-nemesis of The Flash. Not just any old Flash, but Wally West - the third Flash. As such, Zoom is technically the third Reverse-Flash. You have to admit, it would be kind of cool to have Wally West be Zoom - it would show that Berlanti & Co. have some balls and aren't afraid to mix things up a bit.

If we look at it from an in- story point of view - what do we really know about Wally? He may or may not be Joe's son and he's into street racing. He has an attitude problem and isn't exactly best friends with his sister. Wally is quite a likely candidate, but he's not the most likely. That honour goes to...

Henry Allen

Hey look, it's the original Flash. Or is it?
Hey look, it's the original Flash. Or is it?

See that picture up there? That's taken from the Speed Force when Barry, Harry & Cisco were crossing the breach over to Earth-2 last episode. That guy you can see? Why, that's John Wesley Shipp, probably best known to most of you as Henry Allen - Barry's Dad. To some of us, however, he was The Flash back in the '90s. You may also notice that the logo on his chest is backwards. Isn't there some other guy with a backwards Flash logo on his chest running riot at the moment?

We haven't seen Barry's Dad in a long time, not since he got released from Iron Heights and left - y'know, for Barry's own good. My theory goes something like this: While our Henry was off hiking in the mountains or whatever, he got kidnapped by Earth-2 Henry, who in his world has been corrupted by the Speed Force and taken back to Earth-2. We all remember the dude in the metal mask from last week, right?

Well, that's our Henry. Held hostage by Earth-2 Henry who is in the process of de-speeding (that's a word, right?) or killing every Flash on every Earth so he can, once and for all, be The Fastest Man Alive.
