Ryan Reynolds is a man of many talents, but for one brief moment he managed to convince Deadpool director Tim Miller that he's a dedicated follower of fashion after expressing a little constructive criticism for his skin-tight Deadpool costume.
While on the Vancouver set, Miller said he was shocked to find out that Reynolds is pretty knowledgable when it comes to fashion terminology.
“Ryan sent me this note about the costume when we had it and he’s like, ‘I love it, except for the whiskering in the crotch.' And I had to get out my fashion dictionary to see what actually 'whiskering’ was, and then I was like, 'Goddamn, this guy is f**king on it with his knowledge of fashion and the costume stuff.'"
For those not as in the know as Reynolds, whiskering is the faded and worn-out look of the pants that draws the eye straight to the crotch area. Personally, I have no complaints about my eyes being drawn to Reynolds' crotch because, let's be honest, it was going to happen anyway.
Eventually, Reynolds came clean that the notes actually came from his gorgeous, fashion-forward wife Blake Lively.
“Ryan was like, 'Did you think that note was from me? That was my wife.'"
In the end, all was well with the Deadpool suit. According to an interview with ComicBook.com, Reynolds said that he and Miller were both in tears when they saw the finished product for the first time.
"When we finally saw that suit, fully done, finished and completed … both Tim Miller and I wept. I’m not even exaggerating, we wept in Simi Valley, California in some warehouse where some guy makes all these crazy suits and had this one under a spotlight. We walked in and we wept. Tears coming down our cheeks. It felt so good."
After waiting 11 years to make this passion project a reality, I'm not surprised that Reynolds would shed a few tears of joy. He may be sarcastic and violent, but the "Merc with a Mouth" definitely has a softer side.
'Deadpool' is currently playing in theaters.
