Big news! Disney's Frozen is about to come to a Broadway theatre near you! In the Spring of 2018, the highest grossing animated film in history will be performed live just like smash hits, Aladdin, The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, and Beauty and the Beast.
According to Bibaoya.com, "News of a stage version was first announced in 2014 when Disney CEO Bob Iger said that Frozen would 'be going to Broadway'." (source: http://bilbaoya.com/2016/02/16/frozen-musical-confirmed-by-disney-to-hit-broadway-in-2018.html)
This is exciting news for all fans of the Oscar winning song, 'Let it Go', which became a notorious hit amongst children and adults alike after the release of Disney's Frozen. For my part, I'm excited to see the costumes and how they'll tackle Elsa's special powers on the big stage. Fans on Youtube have done numerous covers, such as Traci Hines below:
The creative team behind the Broadway show will include seven time Tony winner Bob Crowley, designing the sets; choreography by Peter Darling, and lighting and sound design done by Tony winners Natasha Katz and Peter Hylinski, respectively. Additionally, Alex Timbers has signed on to be the director; signifying the producers of the show are eager to hire the best talent in the business. Timbers has a lot of experience directing Disney stage productions such as Peter and the Starcatcher, Aladdin, and The Lion King.
I think Sierra Boggess and Laura Osnes would be great as Anna or Elsa! I can't decide which one should play which sister! Both are beautiful Broadway stars with fabulous voices who could bring the characters of Frozen to life.
Here is Sierra performing in The Phantom of the Opera:
