Developed by Naughty Dog, Uncharted is a series of tomb-raider esque games about treasure hunter, Nathan Drake. The games are exclusive to Sony's Playstations and PSP, and are praised for their amazing graphics and story-lines. Although it was speculated that Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception would be the last game, Naughty Dog released information a while ago that they were in the process of making Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, which would be the very last game in the popular series.
One of the biggest controversies over Uncharted 4 is that as it will be available exclusively for the Playstation 4, and along with this, the graphics have changed - meaning that the characters look very different. The biggest change seems to be for the protagonist, Nathan Drake (voice-acted by Nolan North).
As he's such a lovable character for his personality and comical one-liners, avid players are hoping that the producers won't have changed the character's personality as much as his face.
Last year, Naughty Dog released a trailer that showed that Drake had moved on from his criminal life and settled down with his wife, Elena. The trailer also showed Nathan's big brother, Sam Drake (voiced by Troy Baker) accompanying the protagonist on what is set to be his last adventure.
Although this game is going to be the same action-packed adventure that its predecessors was, fans worry that without a solid story-line, the game will fall apart. Previous games have given us the riveting adventure we were looking for, but haven't always had an interesting story.
However, Uncharted 2 and Uncharted 3 are known for having new and interesting levels, including one set on the side of a derailed train and one on a sinking cruise ship. These unique level designs and ideas are also a part of what makes the game series so popular. Intermingled with the gameplay are a series of complicated puzzles that keeps the player on their toes and provides a break from all the climbing and gun fights.
Furthermore, the multiplayer mode added to Uncharted 2: Among Thieves was almost as popular among fans as the storymode. The multiplayer features gunfights with other players, playing as your favourite characters from the game, in scenes from the game's main story. The multiplayer has, in fact, become one of the most sellable points of the game, and in order for the final game to be successful, fans are hoping that the multiplayer will be just as fun as it has been in previous games.
All of these elements are what makes the Uncharted series special to the player and unique from other games. Provided Uncharted 4 includes all of this, the game should be the hit finale that the fans want.
