Deadpool is a superhero movie like no other. It's hilarious, vulgar, and gory, and plain awesome. Marvel nailed the merc with a mouth and delivered the best R-rated superhero movie anyone could have asked for. And, of course, Deadpool obliterates the fourth wall like a boss...which is why the movie is chalk full of awesome easter eggs and references. Here are just a few of the dozens of easter eggs and references in Deadpool.
Green Lantern Jokes
If you're a superhero nerd, or a superhero film buff, then you know Deadpool isn't Ryan Reynold's first time saving people. in 2011, Ryan Reynolds puked out a horrifying attempt at launching a DC cinematic universe by playing the Green Lantern. The movie absolutely flopped and deserved to be put thirty feet under. Deadpool however doesn't run from Ryan Reynold's gut-wrenching past. In fact, in the opening credits you briefly see a photo of man dressed as Green Lantern. Later in the movie, as Reynolds goes into the treatment that would birth Deadpool, he asks that his super-suit not be green or animated.
Outside Movie References
There are so many outside movie references in Deadpool that a not even the Library of Congress could list them all. Some of the better ones though are when Deadpool needs to escape he turns to the audience and asks them if they've seen 127 Hours and then proceeds to do what you would think if you've seen 127 Hours. He also makes a Weird Science reference about his girlfriend Vanessa when he says it's like he made her in a computer. T.J. Miller's character also references Blade 2.
Fourth Wall Bashing
In the comics, Deadpool breaks the fourth wall. In fact, he not only breaks it but he grinds it into fine dust. After all, he the only comic book character that realizes he's actually in a comic book. He does the same in the movie and does it brilliantly. For instance, he gets gum stuck on the camera once. He also decides that the punishment he's going to give a character is so severe that it's to hardcore for a R-rating. Thus, he pushes the camera out of view.
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man?
Of all the characters in the comics, Spider-Man and Deadpool are often compared and treated as similar superheroes. After all, the both wear red body suits and fight crime with a sense of humor. It's no surprise, then, that Deadpool makes some references to your favorite web-slinger. Wade Wilson, a.k.a. Deadpool, makes a joke that he looks like he was bitten by a radioactive shar-pei. He also twists Mary Jane's catchphrase saying, "Go get her tiger." He also calls himself your "friendly neighborhood pool guy".
That Stan Lee Easter Egg
Stan Lee is now a strip club DJ. Enough said.
Deadpool is joined by Colossus and Negasonic Warhead, but for a anti-hero who teams up with the X-men in the comics we see little actual X-men. Still, the Xavier School for Gifted Youngsters and the X-men jet make cameos. Colossus also tells Deadpool he should see the professor, to which Deadpool responds, "Stewart or McAvoy?" Yeah, we're not the only ones confused with the new X-men movie timeline.
