During the 2000s there was a familiar face side by side every heroine in a romantic comedy. She was the basic girl next door, cheerful, spirited, funny, all the right qualities to be the best friend, but never the main heroine.
You probably already figured out. I am talking about... Judy Greer!
Forever the Best Friend
Her face was so popular during the early 2000s that she even wrote a book about it. Don't Know What You Know Me From: Confessions of a Co-Star was a wonderful read about the many times that she was just "the girl next to" the female protagonist of the movie.
The titles that make Judy Greer hold her spot as the to-go best friend are classics in the romantic comedy such as The Wedding Planner, 13 Going On 30 and 27 Dresses. She became the iconic best friend. But... what is she working on now?
Judy Greer's career is doing great; she's her own heroine and even when she's not in romantic comedy films as much anymore she is still delighting audiences with anything she does. However, in the romantic comedy territory, another girl seems to be taking her role.
I mean Rebel Wilson! She's sassy, she's her own force and she makes a great job making us laugh real hard. Her work in comedy put her on the map a few years ago and since then, she was worked on different projects non-stop.
The Best Friend From Down Under!
Rebel is by far the one that takes the movie in the new comedy How to Be Single, she's great in that film! Even when her role is to be the best friend. I know she only had three roles that make her the "best-friend" of the romantic heroine, in Pitch Perfect, Pitch Perfect 2 and now in How to Be Single. But can she hold that title?
I will be happy to see if she becomes the new best friend in every movie I see in the future. Because, let's face it, we need a new Judy Greer in our lives!
