WARNING: Spoilers for episode 9 of 'The Walking Dead' 'No Way Out' ahead.

Losing your eye, even in a fictional capacity, is kind of a big deal – so how exactly did 16-year-old Chandler Riggs react to the news that Carl Grimes was about to be horribly shot in the face and end up one iris down? Well, according to Walking Dead executive producer Gale Anne Hurd, he was totally pumped!

Speaking to, Hurd revealed that the young actor was totally prepared to part with his eye (in a fictional capacity only!) due to the teen understanding the nature of the series and also having read the comic series, in which Carl is also missing an eye. She said:

"It's one of those things where if you're an actor in the show and you're familiar with the comic book and there's the moment of iconic and life changing in the comic book, you're always wondering when it's going to happen. It's obviously a big one and one that he was pretty enthusiastic about provided we did it right, which I think you agree, we did."

Too right, ya did! The Walking Dead cast and crew totally nailed that entire scene in the episode, not to mention the entire episode as a whole.

Of course, this is only the beginning of Carl's one-eyed journey, and much like Hershel a few seasons back, I look forward to seeing how the character grows and develops following this horrific injury.

The next episode of 'The Walking Dead' airs on February 21st on AMC

Do you think Chandler Riggs nailed his big scene in the mid-season premiere?
