Straight Outta Compton is a 2015 film directed by F. Gary Grey, and produced by O'Shea Jackson (Ice Cube). Straight Outta Compton tells the story about how N.W.A. came to be. From the slums of Compton, to the spotlight everywhere they went.
The main characters of the film are the legends who started N.W.A; Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Eazy E, MC Ren, and DJ Yella; all along with their manager, Jerry Heller. The actors portraying the characters (in order) are O'Shea Jackson Jr., Corey Hawkins, Jason Mitchell, Aldis Hodge, Neil Brown Jr., and Tom Giamatti. The actors portrayed their characters incredibly. For the most part, the actors were very comparable to their characters. When filming, O'Shea Jackson showed his son his styles of performing to make him a better character. As well as Andre Young showing Corey Hawkins how he would scratch records for the audience.
The filming of Straight Outta Compton actually takes place in Compton, where the cast and crew got nothing but love from the people. I thought the whole movie was well done. The film followed to true story of N.W.A., with the film starting from the troubling times dealing with police. Police brutality to African Americans was common, which also was portrayed in the film. I found this to be something that caught my attention a lot. Especially with the mention of Rodney King. This was a positive aspect of the film in my eyes. Instead of just going along with the story of N.W.A., Straight Outta Compton also went along with the problems of their times.
In my opinion, the film was incredible to say the least. The movie started off with N.W.A. performing at a small gig against the wishes of the club manager. The movie worked its process from almost no fame to the whole worlds attention. From the hate by police, to the love of the people, Straight Outta Compton is an inspiring story.
In conclusion, I would recommend this film to anyone. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It has a timeless story that can easily be enjoyed by anyone who can appreciate hip hop music.
