It was a big night for Taylor Swift at the 2016 Grammys. Yes, 1989 may have won Album of the Year and yes, Tay may be the only woman ever to have won it twice, but the real victory was in her powerful acceptance speech. Firm and unapologetic, her words were not only inspiring but also a sneaky comeback to the recent diss by Kanye West.
In case you missed it, Kanye vs. Taylor Part II kicked off last week when lover of conflict and general controversy Kanye slandered Taylor for a second time by bitching about her in his new song, 'Famous.' Although a whole host of celebrity allies stepped up in her defense, Taylor herself remained quiet — but it turns out she was just biding her time. In a subtle response to Kanye and a salute to ladies everywhere, she took to the stage and gave this stunner of a speech.
"As the first woman to win Album of the Year at the Grammys twice, I want to say to all the young women out there, there are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success, take credit for your accomplishments, or your fame, but if you just focus on the work and you don’t let those people sidetrack you, some day when you get where you’re going, you’ll look around and you will know that it was you and the people who love you who put you there. And that will be the greatest feeling in the world. Thank you for this moment.”
Take that, Kanye! The camera also landed on bestie Selena Gomez, who looked like she was experiencing all the feels.
