Destiny, and by proxy the office of Bungie, has been going through some tough times lately. Recently we heard reports of an internal release date delay for Destiny 2, which was quickly followed by the departure of Bungie's CEO of 16 years, Harold Ryan (suspicious?). Though we've heard nothing regarding Ryan's departure from Bungie, we finally have news on the future of the Destiny name.
Destiny 2 was set to be released in 2016 (though this was only an internal estimation). While this was never officially announced, Activision have stated that the direct sequel will be pushed to 2017. Therefore, fans will lose out on a complete new game this year, but there's a 'large new expansion' on the horizon to anticipate.
Destiny 2 Delayed To 2017, With A 'Large' DLC Expansion Set To Release This Year
What can we expect from yet another DLC release from Activision and Bungie? Will we see something similar to the disappointing The Dark Below? Or are we talking about a release equivalent to The Taken King? Will the Xbox 360 and PS3 be abandoned (most likely)? Well, if previous releases are anything to go by, I expect we can anticipate an additional $40 expansion for 2016. After all, Activision gotta make dat money.
While we can argue the benefits of Destiny 2 receiving a delayed release date, what we're interested in now is the impending release of desperately needed new content. Destiny is becoming stale and fans are slowly dividing. But what sort of content can Bungie promise us to alleviate these woes? Well, here some of the updates that the community would relish in:
- VR Support - 2016 is the year of virtual reality and everyone is imagining what it'd be like to experience their favorite games with the help of Oculus Rift or Playstation VR to name a few. Would it work with Destiny?
- LFG - Looking For Group, is a system that would enable players to search for groups of players online, thus making matchmaking for Raids and such a lot easier. It's something that Destiny has always lacked and we still can't figure out why it isn't a feature.
- Sparrow Racing - This shouldn't be a timed feature. Make it a permanent one - it's awesome!
- Space Combat - Why are our stunning ships purely cosmetic? Why can't we even control their movements during loading screens? It makes very little sense to us and we seriously want to to see something akin to Sparrow Racing in the skies.
What about you guys? Do you have any desires when it comes to content for Destiny, Destiny 2 and the large expansion that awaits us? Do you think it'll get a September release date just like The Taken King and the original package before it? Let us know in the comments below!
