Hey guys I'm back after my second hiatus. I've decided to change my upcoming plans so any blogs I stated I was making in the past I will no longer be making, I'm starting fresh so no review for "The Forest" spoiler alert, it sucked.
So let's begin my first review after my month long hiatus.
Brief Spoiler Free Summary
Wade Wilson, a former Canadian special forces turned low level merc finally turned into a near immortal mutant after he was tricked into participating in an experiment in an attempt to cure his terminal cancer. Now Wade Wilson, going by the name of Deadpool, must track down the man responsible for this, save his girlfriend, and tolerate the X-Men.
Ryan Reynolds ("Green Lantern", "X-Men Origins: Wolverine", "Blade: Trinity", etc) plays Wade Wilson/Deadpool and honestly I don't like Deadpool in the comics at all. I just don't find his character funny. However in this film he really freakin funny. However if you don't like Deadpool in the comics like me than there will be a couple cringy lines but not a lot. Overall Ryan Reynolds plays the perfect Deadpool and is really damn good.
Ed Skrein ("Game of Thrones", "Tiger House", "The Transporter Refueled", etc) plays Ajax and he's decent I guess. Honestly I have the same opinion of Ajax as I do with Yellowjacket from "Ant-Man" both villains are the main focus in the superhero revenge story and are both good at the role but aren't anything special.
Stefan Kapičić ("Big Miracle", "The Brothers Bloom", etc) voices Colossus but at the same time Andre Tricoteux ("Warcraft", "iZombie", "Kindergarten Cop 2", etc) does the motion capture for him. Anyways I've never been a fan of Colossus in the comics or any of the other X-Men films so I didn't really enjoy him in this, in fact I felt like he was the weakest of the main cast. He wasn't really bad more just boring and his jokes were really predictable.
Finally we have Negasonic Teenage Warhead played by Brianna Hildebrand ("Prism", "First Girl I loved", "Annie Undocumented", etc) and honestly I feel like she's the second best character in the film. I don't really care for the X-Men comics so I didn't know who the character was however that didn't affect my view on the character at all. Warhead is a badass funny character who I really hope to see in Deadpool 2.
Normally for a superhero film I'd either do a section based off the action or special effects. However Deadpool is more of a comedy than a superhero film so might as well talk about the comedy. The things I really don't find funny about Deadpool in the comics include the constant fourth wall breaking, swearing = funny, and chimichanga jokes. Luckily for me (Bad for deadpool fans though) there isn't a lot of any of that aside from the fourth wall breaking which they did around six to seven times, still less then I thought it was going to be. However the characters Colossus and Weasel who both happen to be main characters aren't very funny and (mostly for Weasel) can be kinda cringy at times.
However while I think it's the best X-Men film to date, that doesn't mean the film doesn't have faults. Like I said before Colossus and Weasel aren't very funny, but what I didn't say before was the story is really predictable and some of Deadpool's major comic characters (while not really a con for me but a con for deadpool fans) don't have a ton of screentime compared to the villains and Deadpool himself. Weasel does appear a lot but not as much as many people would probably think and Blind Al has only three scenes. One of them is around ten minutes though but the others are just seconds long.
Overall Deadpool is a great movie, it has some flaws (some major, some not) but still a great time. Since I don't find Deadpool in the comics to be funny but I really liked this movie that probably means this film is worth checking out. I can't wait for Deadpool 2.
Thanks for reading you guys and next time I'll be giving my Top Ten Least Favorite Things in the MCU, and following that will be a review of either "Gods of Egypt" or "10 Cloverfield Lane". Until next time guys.
