Recently, one of MoviePilot's contributors, Sparsh Bajaj, put forth a challenge to pick the best moments of film. Many of us jumped at the chance only to realize this may have been one of the hardest challenges for any maniacal move fan! But, through blood, sweat, and tears (a.k.a googling my movie options so I could painstakingly analyze scenes from my favorite movies and make my agonizing choice), I give you my personal Academy Awards!
1. Best Moment - The Boondock Saints Courtroom Scene
This is hands down my favorite scene of any movie ever created! I love this movie and could watch it over and over again. But this scene is what makes The Boondock Saints one of the greatest movies ever! I love the speech and I love the shots where they show the tattoos on Connor and Murphy's hands before they shoot him. They say 'veritas' and 'aequitas,' which mean truth and justice.
2. Best Plot/Story - The Usual Suspects
"The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist." The Usual Suspects is easily on my top five greatest movies of all time. This was really a contender for my next category, Best Dialogue, but in the end, this story is just so deliciously awesome and the plot twists that occur along the way make this the front-runner for best plot.
3. Best Dialogue - A Few Good Men
"You can't handle the truth!" It seems that every person on earth knows this line, even without knowing that it came from one of the most iconic scenes in film history.
4. Most Intelligent Flick - The Life of David Gale
If you have never seen this movie, do not watch the video clip below.
The Life of David Gale had me on the edge of my seat. The ironic story of a man who vehemently opposes the death penalty ending up on death row is one of the most amazing stories you will ever watch. My mouth hit the floor so hard by the ending, I nearly cracked my jaw. This is a must-watch for any Kevin Spacey fan.
Honorable Mention - My Cousin Vinny
This is one of the best scenes from My Cousin Vinny! When Marissa Tomei puts Fred Gwynne in his place in the courtroom cross-examination, she started preparing her Best Actress speech. However, I am positive that it was this scene (above) that won Marissa Tomei the Best Actress award for My Cousin Vinny.
And last but certainly not least... Again, major spoiler alert ahead.
5. Best Movie - Lucky Number Slevin
Lucky Number Slevin takes best movie because it has everything a great movie needs: action, drama, romance, revenge, and suspense. A lot of people may disagree with me, but this is easily one of my favorite movies of all time and it takes best movie because I can watch it every single day and never get tired of it.
It took quite a lot of effort to come up with my favorite movie moments. I didn't think this challenge would be so difficult! I had to add an honorable mention just to get through it. Now tell me...
