Considering how many 80's films are being remade, it should come as no surprise that the classic, Predator has a new movie in the works. News broke of the project in 2014, with very few details emerging since then. The official synopsis is still unknown, as well as any casting, but it sounds as though it will take place following the 1987 film. Shane Black (Iron Man 3), who co-wrote the screenplay with Fred Dekker (The Monster Squad), is set to direct and has announced that the film will not be a reboot, but will instead be a sequel to the franchise.

The title of the new project does leave room for interpretation though, given it's name is The Predator, instead of Predator 4. This leads us to wonder if in fact, The Predator will be a modern reboot in a sense , focusing on new imagery, without necessarily steering away from the origin story. Black has eluded to the idea of "inventive sequels" and "the idea of expanding and exploring the existing Predator mythology, rather than hitting the restart button" (Indiewire). This could very well mean that he intends to use the previous films as a backstory, while reinventing the franchise to fit in with current movie standards. Regardless, the visual effects alone will be enough to make The Predator stand out from the rest. Check out the first teaser image, courtesy of 20th Century Fox's Facebook page, below:

Since The Predator is considered a continuation, let's hope that Arnold Schwarzenegger does what he does best, and surprises us with a cameo! We all could use a little more of this:
