Deadpool, recently released on February 12 in the US, has been very successful in the box office; breaking several movie records. What some people don't know is that the film was taped in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. As well, starred Canadian-born actor, Ryan Reynolds. Even in the movie, the main character Deadpool, acknowledge that he was from Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. Deadpool even killed a bad guy with a zamboni on an ice hockey rink... very Canadian of him!
Well, to celebrate all this Canadian goodness, fans of the anti-hero have started an online petition to erect a statue of Deadpool in the city of Regina; Deadpool's claimed hometown from the movie. Deadpool claimed to be from Regina in his latest feature film.
“I’m Wade Wilson from Regina, Saskatchewan. Regina, the town that rhymes with fun.” -Deadpool
The mayor of Regina, Michael Fougere, has made a statement to the petition by posting online saying "nope" attached with a link (a news article about fans' attempt to getting a statue built.)
The petition was started by a Regina local, Luke Oliver, who wants city council to approve the building of the Deadpool statue. Currently, Oliver's petition holds over 2000 signatures and counting. If the petition begins to get an overwhelming response maybe the city will have to take some time to think about it.
"Have some fun, Fougere! The people want this and it HAS to happen now,"- Luke Oliver to Regina Mayor, Fougere (via Facebook)
