Despite great storylines and lovable characters, [Marvel's Agent Carter](tag:1119765) struggles to pull in high viewing figures. That's not to say that it isn't popular, it's a show that more people DVR than watch live. Marvel's Agent Carter also has delivered some incredible episodes this season, making me incredibly excited for the upcoming finale. As the end of the second season approaches, there is one question on everyones lips: will ABC renew Agent Carter beyond Season 2? Hopefully YES! Of course they should, and this article outlines the reasons why.
1. Peggy Carter: The Original Avenger and leader of S.H.I.E.L.D.
I'm not as well versed in the MCU as I would like to be, but it is a well known fact that Peggy Carter is pretty much responsible for the whole MCU's existence. Peggy is the original Avenger and the leader of S.H.I.E.L.D. and her story is a vital part of history that was only touched on in the original short Agent Carter short.
2. Female Role Model
Peggy is a beacon of hope for those that are repressed due to their femininity. Especially in such a restrictive time setting, Marvel's Agent Carter continues to highlight that gender is less important - it's what's in your brain that should determine whether you're equipped for the job. Highlighted in Season 1, we often saw Peggy being put down and ordering coffees, now she is leading missions on her own. Furthermore, ignoring the whole super villain complex, Whitney Frost and Dotty Underwood also highlight how women can be equally and often more talented than men.
3. Peggy and Jarvis
Peggy Carter and Edwin Jarvis, the unlikely duo that they are, are easily the greatest partnership on TV. The crime-fighting duo has become unstoppable and despite the fact that they constantly bicker, theirs is a true, supportive friendship. It would be a shame to end the exciting, brilliant and often hilarious adventures of Peggy and Mr. Jarvis.
4. Will They or Won't They?
Ever since the first season, there have been hints that Peggy and Agent Daniel Sousa would become romantically involved. Things were further complicated when Sousa moved to LA and became engaged. Not to mention, Peggy's flirtations with Dr. Wilkes. Despite an almost kiss a couple of weeks ago, they have yet to "get together." It would be unfortunate if we do not get to see the two enter into a relationship.
5. The importance to the MCU
Continuing Peggy Carter's story is vital, as it could directly link in with storylines that will later become relevant in the MCU. Hayley Atwell has starred as Carter in several Marvel films and series', so we know that her character is vital - therefore, her story must continue.
So while ABC deliberates on the fate of Marvel's Agent Carter I can only hope that they make the right decision and renew this show. If not, hopefully they'll auction it off to other networks, because Peggy Carter's story is one that needs to continue.
