Mother of six Angelina Jolie has revealed that she never envisaged herself bringing up kids when she was young, but her experiences in Cambodia changed her mindset and made her feel the need to be a part of something bigger.
The 40-year-old actor spoke out to the Associated Press and explained that in the year 2000, when she was shooting Lara Croft: Tomb Raider in Cambodia, something within her shifted, she said:
“When I first came to Cambodia, it changed me. It changed my perspective. I realized there was so much about history that I had not been taught in school, and so much about life that I needed to understand, and I was very humbled by it."
One of the things that was awakened within her was the desire to become a mother, she told interviewers:
"It’s strange, I never wanted to have a baby I never wanted to be pregnant. I never babysat. I never thought of myself as a mother."
That was until she was playing with children in a local Cambodian school she was visiting and had an epiphany, she explained:
"It was suddenly very clear to me that my son was in the country, somewhere."
Two years later in 2002, Jolie adopted her eldest son, Maddox, now 14 from Cambodia before adopting daughter Zahara (now 11) from Cambodia and Pax (now 12) from Vietnam. The 40-year-old superstar also had three biological children with her husband Brad Pitt: Shiloh, age 9 and twins Vivienne and Knox.
