Get your survival bags ready, people, because one epic disaster movie is coming back for a sequel. If last year's San Andreas didn't rock you to your core, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and New Line are prepared to do it all over again.
This morning, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that a sequel to San Andreas is currently in the works. After raking in a shocking $473 million worldwide, it should come as no surprise that plenty of the original cast and crew are excited to come back for the project.
Producer Beau Flynn and director Brad Peyton are both returning, as well as Johnson, who is already confirmed to reprise his role as Raymond Gaines. The sequel is also expected to bring back Carla Gugino (Emma), Alexandra Daddario (Blake) and Paul Giamatti (Lawrence Hayes).
San Andreas 2 also welcomes newcomers Neil Widener and Gavin James, who were brought on by the studio to pen the new screenplay.
At the moment the storyline for the San Andreas sequel is shrouded in mystery, but I'm interested to see how it will pick up from the first movie. The last we saw of Gaines, his estranged wife Emma and his daughter Blake, they had escaped the havoc of the earthquake.
While facing the aftershock from the massive quake seems to be the most likely storyline, the San Andreas sequel could shift gears and focus on how their city will recover and rebuild. Either way, if Johnson is on board, so am I. Bring on the disaster!
