Throughout the past fifty years or so, the question has been begged by both fans and many “normal” people within the realm of comic books, and that question is regarding who would win in a fight between Batman, The Dark Knight, and Superman, The Man of Steel. Now, when many people look at this question they often think that Superman would win with both arms and legs tied behind his back, but those are also the same people who don’t look into the characters of both Batman and Superman very well, and see that when it comes down to it, Batman beating Superman in a fight isn’t entirely out of the ordinary

Tell me, do you bleed?
Tell me, do you bleed?

As both a comic book fan and a movie fan, I love to speculate on the upcoming superhero films, and as Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice is paving its way into theaters rather soon, I feel that the marketing for the film will highly focus on who will win the fight, and as a movie fan, I feel that people will highly focus on that aspect as well, which is good, because it shows that not everybody believes that Superman can and will instantly plummet Batman into the ground turn him into pudding. As a comic book fan, though, I’m telling you right now that Batman will win the fight.

Grrrrr.
Grrrrr.

People often look at me and say things like, “Superman will just use his heat vision and blast Batman’s head off,” or, “Superman will kill Batman like he’s just an insect,” but what people often forget is that the last son of Krypton’s role isn’t to play god or kill people, but to be a hero and do the right thing. It would obviously be out of character for Superman to kill Batman, because Superman doesn’t kill innocent people, let alone other heroes. Superman knows that he can throw Batman into space, but he won’t do it because he knows that it isn’t the right thing to do.

The big blue boy scout!
The big blue boy scout!

On the other hand, though, Batman is the exact opposite. Batman won’t kill people, but he’ll cause so much pain upon them that they’ll wish they were dead. Throughout the comic books, Batman has been shown to be intensely brutal when it comes to threats. Some of these threats may include thugs, The Joker, Two-Face, and even Superman! Even when it comes to the big boy scout in blue, Batman shows no mercy, and in this new incarnation of Batman, who will be played by Ben Affleck, he will not hold back when it comes to taking down the man of steel.

Just a simple neck snap.
Just a simple neck snap.

Yes, it may be argued that Superman can fly, has super strength, and can even shoot lasers out of his eyes, but people often forget the fact that Batman has spent literally billions of dollars on his gadgets and technology. Batman, throughout the years, has become something of a perfectionist when it comes to everything. He’s trained himself so intensely that he is at the peak of his physicality, is a master scientist, an extreme martial artist, and knows everything about his foes before he goes into a battle. You think that this Batman will go into a fight with Superman unprepared? Think again. Not only does Batman have the Batmobile, but he also has the Batwing, the Batcave, his armored suit, and most importantly, his butler, Alfred Pennyworth. Not only will Alfred be there to stitch Batman’s cuts and kiss his booboos, but he’ll also be in the Batcave guiding Batman by scanning his surroundings, telling him the weaknesses of Superman, and helping him avoid civilian casualties and collateral damage. Alfred can also pilot a drone from the Batcave, which may be extremely helpful when Batman is in the midst of fighting Superman.

This film, as mentioned by both director Zack Snyder and actor Ben Affleck multiple times, will be very heavily influenced by Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns. In that comic book, Bruce Wayne is much older and world weary. He’s seen The Joker torture Jason Todd, who is the alter ego of the beloved boy wonder, Robin. He’s also been around for forty years and knows a thing or two about crime fighting. The comic focuses on Batman coming out of retirement and stopping a gang called “The Mutants.” Surely, this film could very well include The Mutants, but from what we’ve seen, it will mainly focus on the Batman versus Superman aspect, which is crucial for a film literally titled “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.” Anyhow, towards the end of the comic book, it is revealed that Superman is basically a puppet for the government and will do anything that they tell him to do, including taking down the vigilante known as the Batman. In the end, Batman gears up in metal armor and beats Superman by using an explosive kryptonite arrow. Seeing as how much inspiration the film is drawing from that comic, and seeing as how much director Zack Snyder favors Batman over Superman, it’s very likely that this film will also reveal Superman getting beaten by the bat.

The film is just a little over a month away from its worldwide release, and we will surely find out then exactly who will win the fight, but for now, I am very entitled to my opinion and am very positive that Batman will win. Due to the massive success of the Batman franchise, it would also make sense for the marketing to have Batman win as it would just showcase another trophy on Batman’s shelf. Until March 25th, we will just have to speculate and root for one side in favor of the other, but as both a comic book enthusiast and a movie enthusiast, I think that not only will Batman win, but he will also show Superman who’s boss and bring his confidence down a level or two.
