Check out our podcast here if you want to hear us talk about it:
Stein talks to Cisco about his scientific theories at Star Labs, but realizes there is something off about the whole scenario. He realizes that Valentina has him under some sort of mind game to get him to tell her how to create Firestorm and breaks out of it. Vandal appears and tells him that one way or another he will get what he wants. Meanwhile, Ray and Rory are locked together in a cell. Jax can feel that Stein is afraid and blames himself for the whole situation, but Kendra promises that they will save him. Rip, Snart and Sara make plans to break into the Koshmar gulag to break the Ray, Rory and Stein out. The go to a prison in hopes to talk to an inmate with knowledge of how to get into the Koshmar. After a brief struggle they get the information that they need. They go back to the ship and get ready to carry out their plan. Kendra and Jax ask to help, but Rip forbids them to as he does not want them to die or get captured by Vandal. Before they embark on the mission, Rip pulls Sara aside and shows her what will happen to the future should Vandal and Valentina be successful in creating Firestorm. He tells her if the plan goes sideways and they can not rescue the trio, especially Stein, she has to take Stein out. Snart talks to Sara and tells her that he knows what Rip is putting her up to and doesn't think it is the right call. She tells him that it will not come down to that and they will rescue them. Ray tries to finds out where Stein is and begins to ask other inmates. When an old man he is talking to is assaulted, he stands up for him, but is nearly beaten to death while Rory just stands by and watches.Kendra and Jax figure out a way to use the Firestorm connection to signal Stein and tell him that they are coming. Ray, bloody, beaten and alive is brought back to cell, disappointed in his team mate for not helping him. They are then taken and readied for torture by Vandal who uses this to get Stein to talk. Ray and Rory tell Stein not to say anything so Vandal has his men torture them. Ray takes the brunt of the beating to save Rory and Stein gives in, not wanting to see his friends hurt anymore. As they are leaving the torture room, Rory sees Snart who has Sara losing as a failed Firestorm corpse. They split up when Snart decides that his priority is to save Rory. Sara chases down Valentina and tries to save Stein, but is unsuccessful. Kendra and Carter tell Rip that there is another way to stop Vandal without having to sacrifice anyone. He agrees to create a distraction for them so that Kendra can get Jax to Stein. Kendra gets Jax into the gulag where he turns the power off, allowing the prisoners to escape. Snart breaks Rory out and plans to leave Ray, but Rory tells him that he saved his life, so he must do the same.Rip and Snart tell Sara not to go through with killing Stein and that there is a way to save him. Valentina finds out that Stein is the other half of Firestorm and merges with him despite his warnings not to.Vandal senses Kendra and confronts her in the lab. When she rejects him again, Rip shows up in time to deal with Vandal himself. He retrieves his watch and blows up the lab, killing Vandal. With the prison in total anarchy and Valentina abusing the Firestorm powers, Jax decides to confront her and save Stein. He is able to reach out to Stein who rejects his merge with Valentina and the team is reunited. They hurry on to the ship when Valentina has a negative reaction to the separation and explodes in a blue aura. Thea team share a happy reunion back on the ship, but it is interrupted by Chronos who blows them out of the temporal zone. They end up in Star City 2046 and everything is destroyed. They are confronted by a hooded archer who they think is Oliver, but the man claims to not know who that is and attacks them.
A lot went down in their mission to save the trio from Vandal and Valentina. Explosions and ass kicking galore. Check out these notable scenes.
Cisco Ramon: He was only a hallucination used by Valentina to get information from Stein, but it was still nice seeing him. The second you hear him talk you know there wasn't something right. Hopefully we get to see the real Cisco in the a future episode.
Green Arrow:Once the team lands in Star City 2046 they are confronted by an archer who they initially thought was Oliver. He tells them he has no idea who they are talking about and that he is the Green Arrow.
Legends- The odds were stacked against them and they were almost forced to kill off one of the team members to save the future. Good thing it did not come to that though and they were able to come up with a better plan to save Stein, Ray and Rory! They get another point for not totally messing up the timeline. Of course though things go poopy and they all end up in a pretty bad situation. At least they are all together.
Rory and Ray- Looks like Ray has something more in common with the Rogues than they thought. Despite their constant hostility towards them, he threw himself in the line of fire and stood up for his team. I guess it struck a chord in Rory after Ray did that and returned the favor by saving him. Respect.
Rip and Sara- I'm starting to wonder why he always picks Sara to do all the complicated tasks. Why not ask someone like Snart and Rory who are actually criminals. Not to mention she has the blood lust problem and I',m sure she would have felt terrible killing Stein. I guess he sort of made it right by telling her it would have been on him because he asked her to do it.
Snart and Sara- Snart may know everybody on the ship better than they know themselves. He knew right away what Rip asks Sara to do and had her doubting Rip's leadership. He then tells her to go through with it and then has a change of heart telling her not to. Good man Snart, good man.
Stein and Valentina- If the circumstances were different I'm sure any guy would take the chance to "merge" with her, but in this case Stein was right with the "HELL NO!" She was straight up crazy and smart to find out that Stein himself was the other half of Firestorm. She didn't listen to Stein and look where that got her. We don't think that she's totally gone though. We will elaborate on it more down below.
Stein and Vandal- Without his other half he wasn't able to just roast this guy . So he he went on to verbally roast him and stood his ground. Vandal knew he couldn't hurt Stein, but he could hurt his friends. Dirty move man, dirty. Karma hit him pretty hard in the end though.
Snart and Rory- "It's just you and me Mick." Saving Rory as Snart's priority, but after being saved by Ray, Rory knew that it was bigger than just the two of them now. That they were part of a team they needed to protect. I guess both of them realized that this episode.
Rip and Vandal- Must have felt good to kill Vandal a second time. He got his watch back and slowed the bastard down for a little while. Hopefully Rip doesn't get tired of killing the man over and over until Kendra is strong enough to do it herself.
Kendra and Jax- Rip benched them and for good reason. It was pretty awesome to see them risk their lives to save the rest of the team though. Their plan was pretty clever and it actually worked. Not bad for being bench warmers.
Stein and Jax- Reunited and it feels so good. It might have taken Stein getting captured by Vandal and nearly creating a Firestorm for the bad guys to use for Jax to realize his mistake, but at least they are okay. I don't think we would be able to see Stein lose his other half of Firestorm like what happened with Ronnie. He has only been looking out for Jax.
Barry Allen Who- Even with a blown out need and a little help from Sara, Jax was able to out run gun fire. Take that Barry!
Smoak Tech- So we are guessing that the Queen/Smoak Wedding didn't go through in this future.
What's To Come/Theories:
Welcome to Star City 2046 where all your dreams and wishes die. The have definitely failed this city. Looks like a new character has taken up the mantle as Green Arrow. He also claims to not know who Oliver Queen was and starts firing at the team. The city is destroyed, criminals are running things, and it is absolute anarchy. Sara and the team try to figure out what the hell happened and run into Deathstroke who has his own little army. Then we see a bearded Oliver who really let himself go saying that he failed this city. Towards the end of the preview Sara confronts another archer who looks like Oliver, but younger. Could this be Oliver's son William? It will definitely be interesting to see how this all plays out and what caused the events in this timeline. Now in regards to Valentina and Vandal; we know he is going to pop up again soon and she probably didn't die. Her colors were very similar to Deathstorm in the comics and with all that energy she absorbed who's to say she doesn't have the will to survive. She would also be closer to how she was in the comics in the fact that she emits radioactive/nuclear energy. Bring on Negative Woman.
This show never ceases to impress us each week. The story continues to progress and get better, with action packed sequences to go along with it. We got to see Negative Woman in the making and are sure we will see her again. The team is finally starting to act like a team, not just strangers on the same ship. Then we segway straight into the start of the Arrow episode we've all been waiting for. We rate this a Stein knows he like being merged with Valentina, but won't admit it out of nobody got left behind and the gang is back together. This episode gets a perfect "score". What did you think about last night's 'Fail Safe'? Leave it in the comments below, we'd love to read them!
