So, I have seen Deadpool and I agree it was as amazing as it could have been. This is not a typical review or maybe not even a review at all. It's an anti-review because you know it's Deadpool. However, I also want to cover what's coming up and what it means for the rest of the year.
As I am sure you have read from everyone with a keyboard by now Deadpool is either great or like the one review I read dumb (not sure what rock they live under) but it was awesome. From the budget cuts making it more down to earth and realistic to the cinematography, if your into that sort of thing, shot for shot this thing was superb. The jokes were on point and even though it pains me to say they did give a lot away in the previews it did live up to the hype. If you are going to see what all the hubub is about or you are a fan I do not think you will be disappointed.
Now with that being said, what does this have to do with comic movies and movies in general for the next year? Everything! Every movie in the next year now has a lot to live up to. A movie that was not going to get made but was demanded by fans and with an R-rating mind you, gets made and is phenomenal. This means that movies that were not asked for or with people in the movie everyone is concerned about (here is looking at you Ben Affleck) now has to live up to, not the hype but the money expectations. While we are on the subject of how things are screwed for Marvel or Fox or whoever or what movie universe screwed up Deadpool, whatever, all the crap that happened to Deadpool in Wolverine or Wolverine happened to X-men or Ryan Reynolds happened to Green Lantern only sufficed to say, made this movie better. A character who breaks the fourth wall combined with the star being self aware and making jokes at his own expense was pure gold.
Batman V Superman is coming whether we like it or not and I think we will. I am looking forward to the cameo by Aquaman, quiet you! Look I know Ben Affleck will be a good batman, how do I know I have seen Hollywooodland and if you haven't go check it out. He actually plays George Reeves one of the original Superman characters, which by the way I have seen the George Reeves Superman and it is not bad for that era. I can forgive his performance in Daredevil and after seeing Deadpool it seems as though there is room to forgive, even though I liked Green Lantern. So, yes I am excited about DC doing this, but I wish they would include Stephen Amell and Grant Gustin. I have been reading there is room for them in a shared universe with the different timelines but we will have to see. By the way Suicide Squad is coming and whew the last trailer for that gives me hope for DC. This looks fun!
I am not going to talk about Civil War in this post cause, it's Civil War, too much to say and I can get to that later if you like. I will say though I think we have forgotten one thing no one seems to be talking about, Dr. Strange. It's coming according to IMDB in November. I have not heard much about it, no one is writing about it no one is predicting anything about it that I know of. It is almost as though it has fallen off the face of the earth with all the news of other movies coming out. I may be wrong but I have not even seen a trailer for it, it is almost as if Marvel is not playing it up right now due to everything else on their plate. Especially with them competing with DC.
One final thought, I know I know I have been all over the place with this one. The Flash dropped the new trailer for next weeks episode which features King Shark, I love it. At first it sounded like the studio didn't have enough money for this but maybe the fans made enough noise to make them invest a little more.
What do you guys think? Deadpool, over the top? Dr. Strange, will anyone see it? Excited about King Shark? DC VS Marvel? Let me know in the comments below!
