Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, this is perfect casting!
Disney has been busy scouring Hollywood the past few months to find the perfect nanny. A Mary Poppins revival is in the works, and it's clear Disney won't settle for just anyone to bring the beautiful and magical Mary to life. Earlier rumors stated that Anne Hathaway was being considered for the role, but it looks like that idea is long gone (and I must say, thank goodness), because Into The Woods and Devil Wears Prada actress Emily Blunt is in final negotiations to take the role! Has there ever been better casting in Hollywood, besides the original? I think not!
The film will follow its predecessor as a musical, and will be based off of the other eight Mary Poppins novels, and not the novel the original film follows. It is being directed by Rob Marshall, who also directed Blunt in Into The Woods, so it's seeming really likely that Emily will lock down the role. She was nominated for a Golden Globe for her role as the baker's wife in Woods, in which she showcased her unknown vocal talents, so she's got the singing down. Blunt is also the perfect age to play Mary Poppins, is British, like Julie Andrews, and has insane vocal talent. See for yourself in the clip below:
Blunt's acting talent speaks for itself; her recent role in Sicario blew moviegoers and critics away! She is almost too good to be true for bringing Mary Poppins to life, so I am crossing my fingers that Disney locks her down soon. The revival is being written by David Magee (Finding Neverland), and will be scored by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman (Hairspray).
Do you think Emily Blunt will make a good Mary Poppins?
