As celebrities always seem to know what they're doing, it can be easy to forget that those in the public eye are really just as clueless and ad-lib as we are, especially when it comes to raising kids.
These 6 celebrity parents have all made the headlines with their parenting methods and, after checking the reasons, you'll understand why:
1. Will & Jada Pinkett Smith
From stopping time and building pyramids to Prana energy and predicting the future, Will and Jada Pinkett-Smith's children are no strangers to spaffing out the most demented shit and calling it 'creative freedom.'
The Smiths advocate a hands-off parenting method so the children can explore their creativity with no restrictions, which (surprise surprise) has lead to some pretty 'interesting' outbursts.
Will Smith has since commented on their approach to parenting, saying it "may have been a mistake." Go figure.
2. Alicia Silverstone
Although the above video of Alicia Silverstone feeding her son Bear via spitting pre-chewed food into his mouth may be triggering for some, the actress' isn't entirely Clueless in her approach.
The method is called 'pre-mastication' and has quite a big (albeit niche) following. But, while it's debatably healthy and steeped in tradition there's something about the practise that's hard to swallow.
She has said,
“He literally crawls across the room to attack my mouth if I’m eating."
3. Mayim Bialik
Bialik a.k.a The Big Bang Theory's Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler has received a fair amount of criticism for her 'attachment parenting,' with many worrying that breast feeding past a certain stage creates an unfair level of dependence and disregard for rules. She has said,
“I never ever believed that I would be nursing a child over the age of 3. But now that I am, I believe when he is done, he will be done. I believe that nursing is natural and beautiful and wonderful. I also believe that there is nothing wrong with nursing Fred.”
4. January Jones
As you can imagine, the news of January Jones chomping on her own placenta divided the crowds a bit. Although she's not the first celebrity to have 'fessed up to the act and nor will she be the last, but the decision plonks her in the same category as Scientology nuts like Tom Cruise and well, you can reach your own conclusions about how ideal that is.
"I have a great doula who makes sure I'm eating well, with vitamins and teas, and with placenta capsulation. It's something I was very hesitant about, but we're the only mammals who don't ingest our own placentas."
5. Candace Cameron Bure
The Fuller House star has openly advocated for the controversial sleep book 'Baby Wise' because "it helps your child sleep through the night, and helps you put your baby on a schedule. It’s so important."
The book outlines practices for growth in “God’s way," and lends suggestions on how to be effective parents — such as doling out "loving corrections" a.k.a punishment via spanking, and stresses the importance of being a submissive housewife — because no home is a happy home until a woman knows her place, right?
6. Gwyneth Paltrow
They may look all sun-kissed and healthy, but beneath that glowing exterior lies a super boring existence. When Paltrow isn't trying to sell vagina steamers and condom dispensers, she's passing on her insanely strict diet regime to her kids — which means that all carbs are off the menu.
Now don't get me wrong, I'm all down for healthy living and bread-free days but like, what? A pizza free childhood is a sad (and creepy) childhood, even if you are called Apple.
