According to BBC News, Harper Lee, the author of To Kill A Mockingbird, has died at the age of 89.
The author originally published her most famous work, which explored themes of racism in Alabama during the 1930s. The book was an immediate success, winning a Pulitzer Prize and earning a film adaption in 1962. A scene from that, starring Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch, can be seen below:
A sequel to To Kill a Mockingbird, titled Go Set a Watchman, was recently released last July.
The mayor’s office of Monroeville, Alabama, Lee's hometown, confirmed the news. At the time of writing, the cause of death is not known.
