With new shows and movies coming out each week, there are countless fandoms for us fans to cling to. Fans of Doctor Who, Marvel, DC, and even My Little Pony lead fan bases, devoting much of their lives to these fictional tales. But there is one fandom that has proven itself to be the strongest over the years - Harry Potter.
Harry Potter fans have really proven themselves to be the best ever since the first book came out back in 1997. The survival of the series was not just due to the incredible writing by J.K. Rowling or the incredible film work from the cast and crew of the movies - ultimately it was the fans who kept the series alive over the years.
Here are 5 reasons why Harry Potter fans are the best fans around...
1. Their attention to detail is truly devotional
Harry Potter fans love to nitpick, which made it rather hard on the filmmakers. Most fandom followers nitpick, but the care and attention Harry Potter fans would give was truly spectacular. If something in the movie is slightly off from the books, Harry Potter fans had to make sure it was pointed out. They even had to recast the actress of Lavender Brown once her details were finally given in the books just to make her more accurate.
Most Marvel fans didn't bat an eye when Baron Strucker did not have a robotic arm in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but Harry Potter fans still can't get over Dumbledore saying something "calmly" in The Goblet of Fire book and not being said the same way in the movie. This attention to detail shows how devoted Harry Potter fans are to the books and to the movies.
2. The movie premieres were always packed
I remember going to the premieres of the Harry Potter movies and they were always packed. Sure, other franchises are packed as well, but not to this extent. Every time a new movie came out, movie theaters had to reserve every screen they had just to accommodate all of the fans.
Not only that, but the fans made sure people knew they were fans. This included cosplay, bringing the books to the theater and even casting fake spells at each other with the $50 wands they had bought. The book releases were also just as packed, with countless fans dying to be the first to finish the latest book in the series.
3. They are willing to defend their favorite characters until the end
Many Harry Potter fans are rather opinionated when it comes to the series. There are some who believe from the bottom of their heart that Harry and Hermione were meant to be together and express their hatred for the Weasley family just to prove this point. There are fans who believe that Snape was the greatest hero of the series and fight tooth and nail to defend the bravest man Harry ever knew.
This love for the characters is a prime example of how dedicated the fans are to the books and to the movies. Search Facebook and you will find thousands of fan pages that match these descriptions, countless of whom are those fans who ship Harry and Hermione until the day they die.
4. They unconditionally loved every movie, no matter how many problems there were
Remember what I said about Harry Potter fans loving to nitpick? Do you think that stopped them from unconditionally loving those movie? Of course not! No matter how many problems there were in a movie, Harry Potter fans still loved them.
One of the movies with the most differences from the books was Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. The movie focused more on relationships than it did on defeating Voldemort, yet I'm sure I can ask almost any Harry Potter fan if they want to go watch it and they will still say yes. These fans love each movie no matter how many mistakes it makes, almost as if the movie is their own child.
5. They kept the magic alive after all these years
Even though a Harry Potter movie hasn't come out in 5 years, and a book hasn't come out in 9 years, Harry Potter fans have still been truly dedicated to the series and kept the magic of the series alive. The fans even inspired author J.K. Rowling to fund and create the website Pottermore that puts you into the adventures of the books.
In addition to Pottermore, the endless pleas of fans wanting more Harry Potter convinced J.K. Rowling to write and produce another series of movies straight from the Wizard World. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hits theaters later this year, and we have the fans to thank for bringing it back. And J.K. Rowling, of course.
Even though the series ended years ago, Harry Potter fans never let their love for the series die. Their love, their devotion, and even their nitpickiness kept the series alive after all these years and will keep the magic of Harry Potter inside their hearts until the end. Harry Potter fans truly are the best fans around.
