[Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2](tag:1081113) finally has some confirmations surrounding it. Up until now it has all been speculation about Star-Lord's father, the film's side characters and, of course, baby Groot. But this past week, James Gunn, the film's director, released a ton of fun facts about the movie on twitter. He revealed that Manti will be played by Pom Klementieff. But other than that, no new characters have been confirmed. But, it has been confirmed that Kurt Russell be there as well, probably as Star-Lord's father. After the success of the first movie, I expect great things from the second. I want more characters, a better villain, and more Groot. Specifically I would love to see characters like Nova or Quasar. But is doesn't seem like they are going to make the cut. In fact, James Gunn specifically said that Nova will not be appearing in the film. Of course, he still could show up, but not likely. And Quasar was not included on the cast list released by Gunn on twitter.
And I am also hoping that the film's villain will be Kang the Conqueror, even though Gunn said that it won't be.
It would make for a great story though, and could be a way for them to introduce another one of the 6 infinity stones. Kang the Conqueror is known for being a time traveler, and with the Time stone being one of the two left to be introduced in the films, it would be a great way for them to have it show up. In the movie, Kang could try and use the infinity stone to carry out whatever time traveling mission that he will have up his sleeve. But that doesn't seem to be the case.
And I don't know how I feel about the fact that Thanos apparently won't be making an appearance in the film at all. I mean, come on Marvel, at least have him show up in a post credit scene.
And it did come as a little bit of a shock to me that Captain Marvel is going of be left out of the film. I think that it would be a great way to provide her with an origin without taking thirty or more minutes in her solo film to give her her powers.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be released on May 5, 2017.
