Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Now I love The Avengers and as superhero film it is superb, but thats all it is, a superhero film. Winter Soldier is something more than just a superhero film and a sequel to a superhero film. Winter Soldier possesses elements of classic spy thrillers. It is a Marvel Cinematic Universe film that defines itself more than a superhero film and that is unique in this age of superhero films. In fact, in the long list of superhero films Marvel has under its belt, there is only one other MCU film that can define itself other than just a superhero film.

The film as a whole also shook up the MCU. In the MCU S.H.I.E.L.D was a security organization which seemed to be the constant and the glue that connected all the other MCU films together, but when we find out the shocking truth that the evil organization Hydra had been growing inside the walls of SHIELD. This has been far reaching in the MCU and even affected its companion show Agents of SHIELD.

Ignoring the specifics, the movie is well done, focusing on character development in the form of Steve Rogers played by Chris Evans. He is also joined by a fellow colleague and friend Natasha Romanoff played by Scarlett Johannson. On a side note Evans and Johannson are actually friends in real life.

The story follows Rogers as he adapts to the modern age as he is The Man out of Time. The adaptation goes even deeper when the shocking reveal that Hydra had been growing within SHIELD the entire time, but what even more shock to Rogers as a character was the discovery that his long thought dead friend Bucky Barnes is alive and what more that he is working for Hydra. As mentioned the movie really is a character driven film with Rogers as the main focus and his interactions with other characters including Natasha Romanoff, Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), Nick Fury (Sam Jackson), and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan).

The movie has plenty of twists and turns as well as fantastic action that will keep you on the edge of your seat. This movie is fantastic and if you have not already, buy the movie however you can. 9.5 out of 10.
