Call Of Duty is a well-known FPS video game franchise. Although the story-arcs behind the gun battles aren't always original, many of the CoD characters are lovable and bad-ass.
10) Frank Woods - Black Ops & Black Ops 2
I was never a big fan of the Black Ops campaign, mostly because it was too confusing and drawn out for me to understand. I've played both games a couple of times, but I still don't really like the campaign or understand it, for that matter. However, Frank Woods is a pretty cool guy (don't deny it) and just an all-round bad ass that's hard to kill.
9) Simon 'Ghost' Riley - Modern Warfare 2
One of the most popular characters in the CoD franchise. When you're playing alongside him, you feel safer, and you feel more of a bad ass yourself. Plus, he was the inspiration behind the game 'Ghosts', which I loved the campaign for. Modern Warfare is my favourite campaign for CoD, and a large part of that is because of the amazing characters (who all seemed to die).
8) Logan - Ghosts
Since he's the protagonist, you don't get much in the way of character quotes, but I loved his character, and I especially loved the relationship he had with his family members. Not many people liked 'Ghosts', but I think that was mostly because of the way people played on the multiplayer. The campaign was really interesting and it was nice to see some diversity in characters and plot.
7) Gideon Emery - Advanced Warfare
Now, I'm not a massive fan of Advanced Warfare, but let's not lie to ourselves here - Gideon was always there to haul your ass out of trouble! Although it was unclear throughout most of the campaign who's side he was on, he was a funny character regardless and I hoped all the way through that he was one of the good guys.
6) Doctor Edward Richtofen - World at War, Black Ops, Black Ops 2
I decided to include zombies-mode characters on here as they're still technically CoD characters. Richtofen is just hilarious and although he's probably insane, he does it in a funny way. He just wants to kill things and have fun, I always have a good laugh when I'm playing as him.
5) Captain John Price - Call of Duty, Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 4, Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3 (this guy's been around)
He was bound to be on the list. Right from when he's first introduced, we get that he's just a big bag of sass and that he has the best ever bromance with MacTavish. Lets face it, we all rooted for him throughout. He was the one to end Makarov's reign, and if I'm not mistaken, he's the only character that survived the 'Modern Warfare' series (other than MacMillan). That guy has something about him - kinda like a better version of Gideon. You just wanna have him around.
4) Hesh - Ghosts
Hesh was my one of my favourites. Playing 'Ghosts' was always better with Hesh in your earpiece telling you to keep going. I just found myself routing for him the whole way through and entrusting him with my life (not that I had a choice). I liked seeing an actual personal relationship in CoD and it made the storyline more interesting.
3) Yuri - Modern Warfare 3
The Russian that just wants to be your pal. I can't exactly place what drew me to Yuri, but for a long time he was my favourite character. MW3 was the first campaign I played, so I became immediately attached to Soap and Yuri, who're kind of the main characters. This guy also died to save Price (okay, and maybe to get revenge on Makarov too) and his death will be remembered. He was the last surviving character of the main crew (except Price of course), and he's always there to help when Price and Soap need it.
2) Tank Dempsey - World at War, Black Ops, Black Ops 2
Admittedly, he's by a long-shot my favourite zombies character. He's just a BAMF who'll kill anyone and anything that gets in his way. He has a lot of anger issues and absolutely hates Richtofen (which leads to funny quotes), making him the perfect candidate for a zombie-apocalypse. I liked Nikolai, too, but he didn't quite make it. And of course, he has great character quotes and likes all the best guns. Overall, a top notch character.
1. Captain John 'Soap' MacTavish - Call of Duty 4, Modern Warfare 2, Modern Warfare 3
Now, if you didn't see this coming then I guess you've never played Modern Warfare.
That's right, he's my favourite character in all of the CoD games I've played. This Scottish bad ass just keeps freaking fighting, and will get you out of so many pickles it isn't even up for debate. Despite the fact that he seems to be mortally wounded through half of the trilogy, this guy always has your back. You can't not love Soap.
Him and Price are good friends, and that friendship helped drive the storyline and made me really hate Makarov by the end of the game. He goes through a lot of trouble, but in the end he's always there being a bad ass, and he just doesn't seem to die (until he does). He gives everything he has for his friends and the safety of the world, essentially. Also, he killed General Shepherd, which is an added bonus. I just love his character. Whether you're playing as him or with him, or even with him in your comms, you can't help but appreciate the extra Soap support. Plus I'm really mad that he died.
