Negan may be close to appearing on screens in The Walking Dead television show, but his comic book counterpart is also gearing up for a new release in the form of a 48-page prequel story.

Image Comics has announced that creator of The Walking Dead Robert Kirkman will write the origin story for the villain, and Walking Dead artist Charlie Adlard will illustrate.

Negan's backstory will be made available in the new Image+ monthly magazine, available with Diamond's PREVIEWS Catalog starting in May, and will be published in four-page issues over the course of 12 months. Image Comics has said that each of the 12 issues "will feature an original, four-page The Walking Dead story concerning Negan's origins."

Negan is infamous for being one of the nastiest villains of all time, but despite all his time in The Walking Dead comic series (his first appearance was issue 100) little is really known about him. Here are three things that we hope the origins series might show us:

Negan's life before the apocalypse

Who was Negan before the apocalypse broke out? From Robert Kirkman and the comic series we know that Negan was a used car salesman, and that he enjoyed billiards and ping-pong, but did he have a family? Friends? I need to know all of this!

Lucille's origins

Negan is obsessed with his barbed wire wrapped baseball bat, Lucille — but how did he come to find and create the persona of "Lucille?" Was it before or after he became leader of the Saviors? Maybe he was an avid baseball fan before the apocalypse?

Negan becoming the leader of the Saviors

At some point after the apocalypse began, Negan established his gang, The Saviors. It'd be very interesting to see exactly how this came about and how this man managed to end up with over 50 men and women at his beck and call.

'The Walking Dead' returns with Episode 11, 'Knots Untie' on Sunday, February 28 on AMC.

What would you like to know about Negan's past?
