Kara and Alex talk about Astra's death when Non breaks into the apartment asking for her to come with him. They hold a Kryptonian burial for Astra's but soon after it ends, he tells Kara that he will eventually kill her. Kara remains cold towards J'onn who she still thinks killed Astra, with Alex wanting to tell the truth. Kara is then called by Lord who asks to be released in return for saving her life. Back at Catco she competes against Cat's new assistant, Siobhan Smythe. Cat has Jimmy and Lucy look into Lord's disappearance as she thinks he has been kidnapped. Jimmy tries to cover for the DEO saying that Lord must be off somewhere vacationing. He talks to Kara telling her that what she and the DEO are doing is wrong. Meanwhile, the DEO tracks another Fort Rozz prisoner using the alias Gabriel Philips, who has been feeding off of rotten flesh. They find him, but a masked man in black appears and incapacitates Alex's whole team. He then abducts Gabriel. Back at the base, they find out that the equipment he is using is highly advanced, made from Black Star alloy, but can not find what his motives are. The bounty hunter brings Gabriel back to his hideout where he reveals his name as Master Jailer and decapitates him. Alex and J'onn work with the NCPD to see if they can retrieve some more information on missing people. Detective Warren acts hostile towards them, while Detective Draper tells them that they found bodies of "weird" people with their heads decapitated by a river. Back at Catco, Winn watches Kara and Siobhan continue their rivalry, when Alex calls asking for her to come in. When Lucy finds a lead that points to the DEO, Jimmy tries to lie to divert her attention away. Realizing that he has been working with them and Supergirl, she leaves disappointed. Alex and J'onn realize that the bounty hunter is killing off the Fort Rozz aliens in order by their prisoner numbers. Kara rushes to save the next victim, Prisoner 2445/Professor Walter Poodle and engages the Master Jailer in a fight. He gains the upper hand and escapes with the Professor Poodle. Alex, J'onn and Kara deduce that the masked man has to be Detective Warren from the CCPD and go to confront him. It turns out that he is innocent and the Master Jailer is Detective Draper who shoots Alex and takes Kara. Alex survives, being saved by her bulletproof vest and rushes to find Kara with J'onn. When Kara awakens, she finds herself locked in a cell streaming Red Sun into it, taking away her powers. She sees Professor Poodle in the cell next to her and he tells her why he was put into Fort Rozz by her mother. He turns out to be a good person, making the mistake in joining the drug trade to make extra money. He came to earth to teach astronomy after his wife died. Draper shows up and asks Kara to be his colleague, which she declines. He then prepares to kill Professor Poodle, with Kara volunteering to switch places with him. Alex and the DEO track Draper back to his cabin, but find no one in sight. Just when they think they hit a dead end, Alex sees a light emitting from the floor. They remove the floorboard and find Draper's ship under the house. They save Professor Poodle from being killed and Alex frees Kara, who easily overpowers Draper. Kara decides to let Lord go free, but she and Alex promise to expose him, should he say anything about the DEO and Kara's secret. Siobhan tells Kara that she will become the next Cat Grant and that she will always be an assistant. Kara tells her that she doesn't like her and that she is up for the challenge. When Kara asks her mother's hologram about the Myriad, it says it can not talk about it before it deactivates. Worried, J'onn asks Kara how bad could it be that it caused a hologram to get scared. She tells J'onn that she needs space and can not work with him for the time being, as she can only think about him killing Astra.
The amount of flying during the fight scenes could still be brought down a bit, but the action sequences were still pretty epic this episode. Check out these notable scenes.
Siobhan Smythe / Silver Banshee: A new hire at CatCo who clashes with Kara in being Cat's assistant. She shares the same name as the the DC Comic character Silver Banshee. It will definitely be interesting to see how she becomes the Silver Banshee.
Carl Draper/Master Jailer: The relentless jail guard of Fort Rozz bent on capturing all the escapees and bringing them to justice. He had a very cool suit and the chains nearly had us thinking that he might have been this show's version of Lobo.
Professor Poodle/Prisoner 2445: Looks like Kara found another good alien like J'onn. Born on the Planet Star Haven, he as sentenced to Fort Rozz by Alura after joining the interplanetary drug trade to get money for his dying wife. He was jailed for 18 years while his wife died. Kara had visited his planet when she was younger with her father.
Team Supergirl- In the aftermath of the last episode we see everyone on the team just divided. Everybody was all over the place this episode, just after they had all finally started to work together. It seems like the only two on Kara's side right now are Winn and Alex. Something pretty bad is probably coming, which will bring them back together.
Kara and Alex- It's killing Alex that she hasn't been able to get the chance to tell Kara that she was the one who samuraied Astra. The longer she waits, the worse the fall out will be. With all that aside, she saved her sister yet again from a superpowered being. Go Alex!
Kara and J'onn- Every scene with them. Ouch. Insult after insult. J'onn has the patience of a saint and it was hard to see him get treated like especially since he wasn't the one who killed Astra. Hopefully these two get back to the way they were, there is a whole lot of danger coming
Kara and Winn- They are finally okay with one another. He even tried to warn her about Siobhan and awkwardly watched the two argue with one another via ichat.
Kara and Jimmy- We'd like to understand where Jimmy is coming from, but he was asking a lot from Kara. Convincing her to let Lord go and telling Lucy her secret is definitely going to backfire.
Kara and Siobhan- This is the first time we've heard Kara straight up tell someone that she doesn't like them. We can not wait to see this office rivalry turn into the Clash of the Titans real soon.
Kara and Non- So it turns out this psycho has a heart after all. Kind of. He let Kara lead the Kryptonian burial ritual in Astra's honor. Then right after he told her that she would be in the next casket. What a savage.
Kara and Prof. Walter Poodle/Prisoner 2445- They shared a pretty touching moment and it was then where Kara learned that not all the people her mom put away were bad people. Like Walter here. He even asked Master Jailer to release Kara as his dying wish. Hopefully we get to see more of him. He is the first Fort Rozz prisoner who hasn't tried to kill Kara.
Kara, Alex and Lord- He felt like just because he saved Kara's life, he deserved a get out of jail free card. His wish was granted at the end but ee think they should have just left the man in the cell with his Netflix. There is no doubt that releasing him will be the biggest mistake they have made. He knows their secret and is a mad tech genius. It won't be long before he creates something to go after Kara again.
Alex and J'onn- Just like Alex, we don't think this whole lying about who killed Astra thing is going to end well. We get what J'onn was trying to protect the both of them, but we know how this is going to end and Alex has an idea too.
Jimmy and Lucy-What is up with the guys on all of these superhero shows being bad liars. That is almost all of their weaknesses. Learning that Jimmy was working with the DEO and Supergirl crushed Lucy. Not sure what is in store for the two, but hopefully things work out.
Jimmy and Cat- It's the first time we got to see a heart to heart between the two. She told him that when she was younger she didn't publish a story of a famous actor who beat his wife and he ended up killing her. Like he said to Kara, the world must be ending if Cat Grant is giving him a lesson in ethics.
Roa- It is a fictional star in the DC Comics Universe. It is the red super giant ) that the planet Krypton orbited. "Rao" is also later written into the Superman mythology as the name of a Kryptonian deity, the personification of their sun, worshiped as a god of light and life. As such the name was sometimes invoked in the comics as a Kryptonian exclamation.
Lobo- When J'onn talked about an intergalactic bounty hunter, Alex looked worried and asked if it was "him". J'onn says no and that they would have known if he was around. Lobo exists.
Flarrowverse Reference- Kara could have been talking about the Dark Knight, but we would like to think she was talking about our masked heroes in Central City/Star City.
The Wire- I guess superheroes still have time to binge watch TV shows on their down time.
Netflix- Lord should be thankful they let him him use the service. At least we know that we will eventually see the show on there.
Star Haven- The home world of Professor Walter Poodle/Prisoner 2445. Kara stated she had been there before. It is a fictional planet first depicted in stories of DC Comics' Legion of Super-Heroes set in the 30th and 31st Centuries, and described as being located near the core of the Milky Way galaxy. It was portrayed as being the home of Legion member Dawnstar and R.E.B.E.L.S. member Wildstar.
Trombus- The home world of the Master Jailer. A Pre-Crisis heavy gravity world of the Earth-One Universe exploded and a family was rocketed to safety. The rocket landed on Trombus. where the family gained super-powers under the red sun and fought crime as the Hyper-Family.
What's To Come/Theories:
Next episode brings in Indigo, portrayed by Laura Vandervoort, who played Supergirl on Smallville. She plots to destroy National City with nukes and claims that she knows everything, which could only spell trouble for Team Supergirl. Jimmy also takes Kara to the Fortress of Solitude, so that means we've got to have some appearance of the big guy. You can't show the Fortress without Superman can you? In regards to Siobhan, when will we see her turn into the Silver Banshee. This episode was dropping hints with her listening in on people's conversations (as Silver Banshee she has super hearing) and staying quiet (which is the opposite of what Silver Banshee does). Then of course we have the Flash crossover coming on March 28, which everyone is waiting for. What we know is that he ends up in Supergirl's world due to him being able to travel through time and space. Whatever brings them together will be epic. If they could recreate the Superman v. Flash race, but with Kara, that would be amazing. We'd like to think that it will play out like this: Barry chases Zoom through the breach and they are both knocked into Supergirl's world. They then have to work together to either stop Zoom or Silver Banshee. Livewire is slated to appear as well so it looks like it will be Supergirl and Flash vs. Silver Banshee and Liverwire. Then Barry could show Kara some super speed tricks as well.
This was a pretty solid episode for Supergirl this week. The action was actually some of the better we've seen so far and we love that they utilized her super speed more. Italia Ricci absolutely owned her role as Siobhan and we can not wait to see what kind of trouble she gives the team once she turns into the Silver Banshee. Master Jailer was a pretty cool villain of the week and the fight scenes with Kara were fantastic. We give this episode 9.7 Kryptos out of 10.
