Two giants of cinema are combining for the ultimate face-off. No, we're not talking about Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice or the latest Marvel hybrid, but their horror equivalent: Sadako Yamamura of The Ring against Kayako Saeki of The Grudge!

Check out the new poster for Sadako Vs Kayako:

As crazy sequels go, this has to be one of the most absurd, and brilliant. Sadako first clambered out of the TV screen in the Hiroshi Takahashi-penned Japanese Ring back in 1998, and the success of the story spawned DreamWorks' version of The Ring four years later and The Ring Two in 2005.

Another sequel, Rings, will be released in October this year.

The vengeful queen of croaking, Kayako first made waves in Japanese movie Ju-On: The Grudge in 2002. This triggered a Japanese sequel a year later and three movies in English from 2004 to 2009.

The forthcoming double team summons ghouls from NBC Universal Japan and Kadokawa, and will star Mizuki Yamamoto (Ghost Hunt) as heroine Yūri under director Kôji Shiraishi.

What started as a fan-made mashup video made by splicing clips from the two franchises became serious when it went viral. The studios acted on the popularity of the amateur video, grabbing their chance to bring the horrific coupling to fruition.

'Sadako Vs Kayako' will be released in June 2016.

Do double the ghouls make for double the scares?
