Ah, the linear progression of time! How it never fails to amaze and make us feel really old -- especially when it comes to movie anniversaries. As well as giving us Special Edition re-releases, movie anniversaries can also take us back to the moment we first watched the film and make us ask the ultimate question: "Has it really been that long?"

Here are 16 movies which are celebrating a major anniversary in 2016.

10 Year Anniversary

V For Vendetta - March 17th

2006 marked the release of the Wachowski's V For Vendetta, an adaptation of Alan Moore's dystopian graphic novel, and arguably the duo's last truly great film.

High School Musical - January 20th

Yes, it was 10 year ago when you started to irritate your parents with continued re-watchings of High School Musical. Of course, in 2016 we're all very aware HSM is actually about socialist revolution. Totally true.

Children of Men - December 25th

Although criminally overlooked at the 2006 Oscars, Alfonso Cuarón's dystopian masterpiece is now renowned as a cinematic experience par excellence.

Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan - November 3rd

2006 was also the year you were howling with laughter in the cinema while watching the slightly disturbing antics of faux-Kazakhstani reporter, Borat.

15 Year Anniversary

Bridget Jones Diary - April 13

It's also been 15 years since romantic comedy monoliths Hugh Grant and Colin Firth slapped each other around on a London street in Bridget Jones' Diary.

The Fast and The Furious - June 22

2001 also marked the debut of one of today's top grossing action franchises, The Fast and the Furious. The gang has now certainly come a long way from illegal drag racing.

Monsters Inc. - October 28

Disney and Pixar also began to cement their domination of the family animated movie market, by introducing kids and adults alike to the adventures of Mike and Sully in Monsters Inc.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone - November 14

Another major cinematic franchise also has its roots 15 years ago, with the first movie in the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer/Philosopher's Stone finally arriving in theaters in 2001.

20 Year Anniversary

The Rock - June 7

Remember a time before all Michael Bay made was Transformer movies? Well, that time was 1996, and it's the year Bay delivered probably his best movie, The Rock.

Independence Day - July 3rd

The aliens might be returning to have another pop at us plucky humans this year, but let us all bow our heads and remember the first epic battle for humanity that was fought 20 years ago.

101 Dalmatians - November 27

That's right. It's been 20 years since you first watched the a gang of adorable puppies overthrow a wicked socialite with a penchant for fur. Feel old?

Mission: Impossible - May 22

It seems 1996 was a big year for action, since it also kicked off another long running action franchise which has managed to survive to the current day, Mission: Impossible.

30 Year Anniversary

Top Gun - May 16

It seems Tom Cruise will have a few anniversary parties to attend this year, as 2016 marks the 30 year anniversary of the quintessential 1980s action movie/air force recruitment video, Top Gun.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off - June 11

Another 1980s classic, but for a slightly different reason, 1986 also saw the release of classic comedy, Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

Crocodile Dundee - September 26

No list of 1980s movies would complete without the inclusion of everyone's favorite bushman and Australian cultural ambassador, Mike "Crocodile" Dundee. Incidentally, 2016 is also the 15 year anniversary of the sequel, Crocodile Dundee in Los Angeles.

Labyrinth - June 27

There's only one movie that can finish off this list of 1980s epics, and that movie features the late, great David Bowie in a pair of extremely tight pants throwing around a baby and dancing with a bunch of puppets.

Which movie's anniversary will you be celebrating this year?
