The current theatrical release is currently rated PG-13, but a darker and grittier R-rated version, titled Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Ultimate Edition, will be released on blu-ray.
After Deadpool opened with a $132.7 million weekend, it was only a matter of time movie execs started to scratch their heads and think of a new marketing strategy. Their eyes seem to have opened to the fact that not every movie needs to be watered down to a PG-13 rating to get the youth's money.
There is no word yet on how the Ultimate Edition will look. Maybe a few extra scenes will be added along with some CGI blood.
Releasing the news of a R-rated blu-ray version before the theatrical release may or may not hurt the box office numbers.
Here's a thought, why not release a PG-13 and R-rated version in theaters at the same time? Give people a choice of which version they want to see.
