With all the renewed interest in the Star Wars universe, it makes sense that most of our attention has landed on the young stars of the new trilogy. The Force Awakens has reinvigorated a zeitgeist, and it's introduced a whole new generation to a galaxy far, far away.
One of the movie's greatest effects is making all of us fans feel like kids again. To celebrate that wonderful sense of nostalgia, I've assembled a collection of photos that show some of the major stars before they made these classic movies. Here are the actors of Star Wars as kids.
Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker)
As Luke Skywalker, he was a Jedi. As himself, he was a mere president during his senior year at Yokohama High.
Alec Guinness (Obi-Wan Kenobi)
Even before puberty, Alec Guinness looked wiser than I will ever be.
Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia)
Who wouldn't love a flashback to a young Carrie and her mom, Debbie Reynolds?
Here's another with full '60s vibes.
Hayden Christensen (Anakin Skywalker)
Moving onto the early prequels, here's Hayden Christensen showing off about the same range in a still photo as he does in all his Star Wars scenes.
Samuel L. Jackson (Mace Windu)
Not even 10 years old, and still a total badass.
Natalie Portman (Padmé Amidala)
This was around the time that she starred in her amazing debut in Léon The Professional, and she clearly can't believe the amount of success she's about to have.
Christopher Lee (Count Dooku)
For us children of the '90s, it's hard to imagine Christopher Lee as anything but a spry, wizened older person, but here's proof to the contrary.
Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan Kenobi)
Who knew Ewan could play the French horn?
Adam Driver (Kylo Ren)
Driver joined the United States Marine Corps after the events of September 11th, serving almost three years before breaking his sternum.
Oscar Isaac (Poe Dameron)
Born Oscar Hernandez, the best fighter pilot in the galaxy posed for his senior portrait before making his way to Juilliard.
Lupita Nyong'o (Maz Kanata)
Two months later, and I still love the fact that a young, beautiful woman played such a convincing 1,000 year old alien.
Gwendoline Christie (Captain Phasma)
I guess this would have been easier to compare if I found a photo of her with a helmet on.
Lastly, here's a collection of Harrison Ford smoldering through the years
It's safe to say that Harrison was will always and forever be a babe.
Sadly, I wasn't able to track down throwback photos from all the major cast members. If you have any gems of Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, or any other Star Wars actor, leave 'em in the comments!
