Television is about to get a lot more mist-erious.

According to Variety, Spike is drawing inspiration from Stephen King's horrifying tale The Mist. The network has ordered a pilot with the same name as its first-ever scripted drama.

Dimension Television is developing the series, which tells the story of an unexpected mist that rolls into a sleepy town, creating all kinds of chaos.

Christian Torpe (who created the phenomenal Danish show Rita) will be executive producing, but the cast and rest of the filmmakers are still up in the air.

Sharon Levy, Spike's Executive Vice President of Original Series, released a statement teasing the network's excitement about this new endeavor.

We are thrilled to join forces with the incredibly creative Christian Torpe and Dimension Films to develop Stephen King’s enthralling novella to a compelling series unlike anything else on television.

The Mist was previously adapted as a movie in 2007, and it was sufficiently anxiety inducing to warrant a TV show.
