We've all seen the memes around the internet, the ones pushing for Leonardo DiCaprio to finally win his well-deserved Oscar (or the ones that lightly make fun of the fact that the actor hasn't won the award, yet).

Though it turns out it's not just DiCaprio's social media fans who are rooting for him to win the 'Best Actor' award this year for his movie The Revenant, he's got support among his peers as well, particularly fellow-nominee, Eddie Redmayne (nominated for his role in The Danish Girl).

Redmayne, the winner of last year's 'Best Actor' award for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything, told the Telegraph magazine that Leo is “definitely going to win and should win.”

This is a sentiment shared by many around the world, seeing as this is DiCaprio's sixth Oscar nomination throughout his 26 year-long career, in which he has produced numerous noteworthy roles, but without Oscar recognition.

Listing the many greats who are also nominated for 'Best Actor,' Redmayne said,

"I feel excited just to be invited to the party, frankly... For me to be considered in the group of feels amazing"

For the record, the other nominees in the "Best Actor' category are:

  • Bryan Cranston for Trumbo
  • Matt Damon for The Martian
  • Michael Fassbender for Steve Jobs

It's great to see such a fantastic group of actors gaining nominations this year, and it's even better to know that actors of the highest prestige, like Eddie Redmayne, can still be humble and cheer on their fellow nominees.

Who do you think should win the Oscar for "Best Actor' this year?
