There has been lots of news revolving around [Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2](tag:1081113), the sequel to the surprising Marvel hit back in 2014. There has been casting, tweets from James Gunn of what is and what is not going to appear in the movie, and much more. The movie is going to focus on finding Star-Lord's father and fans have been speculating about who it would be. Some people thought it would deviate from the comics and make him someone who would better fit the MCU like the Collector or Thanos. Well, they are officially wrong because the identity of Star-Lord's dad has finally been revealed.
Jonathan Frakes Cast As Star-Lord's Dad In 'Guardians Of The Galaxy' Animated Series
The Guardians of the Galaxy animated series? Some of you may say that this has nothing to do with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and in some ways you may be correct. However, the Guardians of the Galaxy animated series and the Avengers Assemble animated series both have many parallels to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As the episodes do not take place in the MCU, they are portrayed very similarly to the MCU. Marvel puts new characters on there in advance so they can give viewers (mostly kids, so they will want to see the movie) a taste of the characters, and most of us don't even care to watch the episodes when we place our predictions and speculations for future Marvel movies. For example, they introduced the Scott Lang Ant-Man with the same origin, looks/appearance, personality, and more, months before Ant-Man was even released. But who exactly IS Star-Lord's dad? Frakes officially announced the following:
"I'm thrilled to be part of another great sci-fi franchise. And I'm also lucky that the character of J'Son just happens to sound like me,"
Star-Lord's Dad Is J'Son, Like In The Comics
The first episode of the show with J'Son centers around his son, Star-Lord, going MIA in Spartax, and the Guardians' efforts to recover their leader. It is awesome to see Marvel sticking with the comic lore and keeping J'Son as Star-Lord's father. J'Son is the king of the Spartax Empire and we will most likely see a lot of the empire in the movie. Just like the movie is supposedly doing, the show will also focus a majority of its season on the relationship between Star-Lord and his dad.
Kurt Russell will most likely take the live action role of J'Son in the movie as he is a big-deal actor and he will not be passed off with a small role. Also, out of all the new cast, he is the most fitting.
Will We See Mister Knife?
For those who may not know, Mister Knife is actually J'Son. In the comics, he becomes a villain. He looses his empire and fortune and out of spite takes on the persona of Mister Knife and begins building a criminal empire. He put a bounty out on Star Lord and was captured. His father's identity was revealed and Star-Lord wanted to take away the one thing that he cared about: The Black Vortex, a cosmic portal. He wanted to do this just to annoy his father, typical Star-Lord.
I don't think we will see Mister Knife in this movie but perhaps in the third Guardians of the Galaxy when his empire has fallen. I do think we will see him as a big threat in Phase 4, after the defeat of Thanos. That will take a toll on the universe and that could affect J'Son's empire.
