Oliver and Felicity finish her therapy session (after having the bio stimulant implanted in her) with Curtis's husband and are met by Damien. He tells Oliver he took William and that he will give him a few days to drop out of the race. Felicity asks who William is and gets upset at Oliver for not telling her he had a son. Oliver tells Diggle and Laurel about William, while Thea reveals that she already knew. Oliver goes to Detroit and recruits Mari McCabe aka Vixen in hopes that she will help him take down Darhk. Samantha comes to see Oliver and tells him that William is missing. He is forced to tell her he is the Green Arrow and introduces her to the team. Mari asks for something belonging to William so that she can track him. She gets his scent from his Flash action figure and they move out to find him. While Vixen flies around Star City, Oliver and Diggle talk about being able to protect their kids. Mari tracks William and they confront Darhk at a hotel. Laurel and Thea take out his men patrolling the hallway, Diggle provides support fire, while Oliver and Mari fight Damien. He is still able to overpower them and reveals he had moved William. Oliver drops out of the race and grants Damien's wish to endorse Ruve. The team realize that Damien must have a totem and with Lance's help they go to retrieve it to take out Damien's powers. They go to his house and Mari is able to steal it, but Damien remains with his powers in fact and nearly kills Oliver, Laurel, and Thea. Felicity tells Diggle and Mari to go to plan B which is to destroy it. She destroys the totem and allows Oliver to defeat a now powerless Damien. He saves William who is then returned to his mother. With the advice of Vixen to let William go and keep him from danger, he says his goodbyes and tells her to stay in touch. Thea confronts Malcolm for taking William and handing him over to Damien. She then tells him to stay away from her. Oliver records a message for his son and tells Samantha not to give it to him until his 18th birthday. Felicity appears and breaks her engagement off with Oliver. Just as she leaves she regains the feeling in her legs and walks out on him. In flashbacks Reiter feel like he is getting closer to what he is looking for which is primordial energy. Conklin appears and seems to be inhabited by an entity. Reiter locks Oliver, Taiana and the rest of the prisoners with the entity to prove that Oliver would survive. The charm Constantine put on Oliver works and the entity tells him he can pass.
Having Vixen join Team Arrow in their fight against Damien showed us a new exciting direction the show has taken with the inclusion of methumans and mystical beings. Check out these notable scenes.
Mari McCabe/Vixen: Originally from Africa and orphaned at a young age, Mari inherits her family's Tantu Totem, allowing her to access the powers of animals. She is an ally of Oliver and Barry after learning about her from Cisco Ramon. It was pretty awesome to see her transition from the animated series to live action.
Team Arrow- Knowing that they couldn't take on Damien by conventional means, they had to call in the big guns. Seeing the team finally be able to put a dent on Damien with the help of the powerhouse Mari is was awesome. Vixen fit in right with them and actually had Damien pooping in his pants. Hopefully she come back again soon.
Oliver and Felicity- Everything was going fine up until she found out Oliver had a son. We have to side with Oliver on this one though. We thought it was for better or for worse. She said she understood him, but then breaks off their engagement. Oliver stayed with her up until she walked out on him. What perfect timing. He lost his son and his fiance.
Oliver and Samantha- That was probably the quickest Oliver has revealed his secret to someone. Even she was more understanding of Oliver keeping secrets. She snapped at him a few times but supported his decisions in saving William.
Oliver and Mari- Oliver should have went to her from the start. She sort of just went cool, let's do this. Her advice to keep William away from his life as the Green Arrow was hard to accept, but she was right. She was speaking from experience and she turned out alright.
Oliver and Diggle- Diggle hit Barry with some words of wisdom in his time at Central City and did the same for Oliver regarding his son. Diggle is definitely some on to look up to. He does the whole vigilante thing and still goes home to his wife and child at night. It must have tore Oliver up that he couldn't do the same.
Oliver and William- It's sad that won't find out anytime soon that his father is the Green Arrow and along with his badass team they saved him. The blur in the picture is fitting for their relationship as of now. So close and yet so far. Hopefully it's not too late when William finds out the truth about everything. It was heartbreaking to see Oliver to say goodbye to his son via video. It's almost ironic, since his father did the same thing, which started this all.
Oliver and Damien- It's a mystery as to why Damien hasn't figured out that the Green Arrow and Oliver are one person. With all the connections and Malcolm at his side, you would have thought by now he would know. You don't take Oliver's son and get away with it though. Damien learned the hard way.
Samantha and Laurel- Awkward. Not really though. It was a long time ago and they out it behind them. I mean you could tell it hurt Laurel hearing it, but she out it aside to help find William.
Samantha and Felicity- Now this was awkward. The mother on Oliver's son and Oliver's current fiance working together. Samantha even defended z Oliver by telling Felicity that it was her who put Oliver in a hard position. It obviously wasn't enough though.
Thea and Malcolm- We love how he keeps using the excuse of him doing what he doing for Thea. It was finally clear that he everything he did up until this point was for himself. Good for Thea for standing up to him. He was literally like a child. The League was his you Oliver took away so he went and took away Oliver's most prize possession to get back at him. What a dick.
Laurel and Quentin- She said she was okay after learning that Oliver cheated with Samantha while she was with her, but it turns out that she's not. She cries to Father Lance that she was still hurting over it.
Constantine mention- He's literally in Hell. It would be awesome to have him come back and help the team fight the final battle.
Vixen Animated Series- Oliver tells everyone how he met Mari and says that they had an "animated" encounter.
What's To Come/Theories:
Now that Damien is in prison, it looks like Malcolm is taking the opportunity to move on with Genesis without him. Our feeling is that Damien will get out and come back with a vengeance. I the next episode 'Heartbroken' marks the return of Cupid who for sure is going to make the team's lives miserable. Damien is shown to be in jail and getting beaten up by the inmates. Oliver tries to fix things with Felicity and turns to Laurel with his problems. Then we've got Curtis who seems to be in some sort of trouble. Too bad we will have to wait until March 23rd to see what happens next.
Last night's 'Taken' was a great change of pace for the show. With Vixen making her first live action appearance, she changed the dynamic of the show, for the better. Megalyn Echikunwoke owned the role here, just as she did in the animated series. We hope that she drops by again or makes her way onto other DC shows and maybe even her own. This episode gets 9.6 broken arrows out of 10. What did you think about the episode? Leave it in the comments below, we'd love to read them!
