On April 15th, The Jungle Book will be released to audiences around the globe. The movie isn't very anticipated, at all really. Anyway, that's not what we are here to talk about. What we're here to talk about is the trailer for one of the most anticipated movies of 2016: Kung Fu Panda 3.
Just kidding, it's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story!
Now, after the glory that was The Force Awakens, Disney/Lucasfilm have a lot of weight on their shoulders to deliver another excellent Star Wars movie. But before they worry about the release, they have to worry about advertising. It's nearing the end of February, and we still have nothing but a photo and a title for the first anthology movie. By this time last year, we were about to get a second teaser for The Force Awakens.
So when is the trailer going to premiere?
Sources are pointing to very soon. According to the article by Dork Side of the Force, it's coming very soon.
Since Disney is looking at 2-3 versions of the trailer, it might not be super soon, but soon. You might be able to expect it mid-March, maybe. Why do I think the middle of March? Well, the middle of March happens to be about 10 days before the other most anticipated movie of the year, Batman vs Superman.
Releasing the trailer about a week before BvS would allow theaters to most definitely attach it to the hotly anticipated movie. That would allow theaters to attract even more viewers who come just to watch the trailer. It would also allow superhero fans to watch a trailer for a movie they might not even know about, increasing their odds to see it.
But if the trailer doesn't air before then?
Well, then my predictions were wrong. But there is another opportunity. They would air it before The Jungle Book. That would allow Disney to attract more viewers to a lowly anticipated movie, earning more money.
But if they don't release it then?
If I were Disney, and didn't release the trailer before BVS, I would release it on The Force Awakens blu-ray/dvd release. Episode VII hits the shelves on April 5th, 10 days before Jungle Book, also possibly increasing those sales as well as the dvd ones. Anyway, to make a long article short, the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story trailer will arrive before mid-April, which isn't sooooo far away. We'll live. Plus, the longer we wait, the more footage we get in the trailer!
As always, thanks for reading!
