Over the years, Marvel Studios has spent plenty of time bolstering the stories of its characters and slowly building up to Civil War and Infinity War. Between the standalone movies and TV shows, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is becoming more intricate and elaborate with each passing project.

Even though the cast lists for Marvel's upcoming slate are becoming longer by the minute, there's one MCU veteran who likely won't be returning, at least for a few years.

Although he appeared in both Thor movies as well as Avengers and Avengers: Age Of Ultron, Stellan Skarsgård won't be reprising his role of Professor Erik Selvig in Thor: Ragnarok.

In an interview with Den Of Geek, Skarsgård confirmed he would be sitting out of the third Thor movie, but he still has one movie left in his five-film contract. It's hard to say which movie his character will be best utilized in, but the actor names Avengers: Infinity War as a possibility:

“I have a five-film deal with them, and they still have one option. ... Thor 3 is not on my slate, but maybe the next Avengers.”

He might not be heading to Asgard to help Thor, but Selvig could be facing an epic send-off in the near future. Saving Skarsgård's last role for the third Avengers installment might prove to be the perfect storyline to bid a fond farewell to Professor Erik.

Hopefully, this next time around he'll remember to pack a pair of pants!

'Avengers: Infinity War - Part I' will be released on May 4, 2018, and 'Part II' will follow on May 3, 2019.

What do you hope to see in Marvel's 'Avengers: Infinity War'?
