A fictitious love story loosely inspired by the lives of Danish artists Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener. Lili and Gerda’s marriage and work evolve as they navigate Lili’s groundbreaking journey as a transgender pioneer. (IMDb)

Nominations: Leading Actor (Eddie Redmayne), Supporting Actress (Alicia Vikander), Costume Design, and Production Design

So, this was interesting. As a stand alone thing, it was really interesting. Eddie Redmayne and Alicia Vikander are wonderful, both together and separately, Tom Hooper laid off the close-ups, and it was an interesting story. But, I found out after the fact that this is a fictitious novelized version of the real people. So…why not make the real version? There are a series of diaries that the novel was based off of. I am so much more interested in a real biopic rather than a fictionalized Hollywood perfect story. So, this was a well made movie, but I don’t know if it fully respects its subject. A shame, considering it’s about painters and their subjects.
